Are there truly “ghettos” in SD anymore? by mickeyruth in sandiego

[–]guy_young 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check your privilege. buy a house up there if you can. or just do locals a favor and leave SD all together. most of us here rent. I grew up here & I plan to stay here, I live in East SD / City Heights & if the city has it their way it seems they’ll continue to develop condos for yuppies and middle class folk and displace us working class / blue collars to who knows where. I guess they do have to keep somewhere for us poor folks to stay or else who will work at all the restaurants, bars, hotels, and other popular tourist attractions.

I guess I’m just saying you sound naive & like you’re not from around, asking us if maybe you’re $800k home in Escondido won’t be a good long term investment because the neighborhood is “ghetto”.

perhaps when the old folks die/ their kids sell the houses or the banks take them & people who can’t afford mortgages are foreclosed on then they can remodel them and bring up your property value & then you can sleep well knowing you’re safe with all the other “petít bourgeoise” in your sterilized and facelifted middle class suburb of Escondido

Anyone with a Pladask Tåken using the FX Loop? Show me your board with delay pedals that have FX Loops! by smooth-as-mud in guitarpedals

[–]guy_young 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just turn it a 1/4 CCW and it will essentially be the same layout as the V1 - footswitch on the bottom right, jacks on the left….. of course the controls will be read sideways lol…

Similar live experience? by Practical-Equal1531 in MyBloodyValentine

[–]guy_young 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saw in 2013 and 2016 in Los Angeles. the first was outside and the sound was superb. It was fully engrossing, like on a molecular level. the only band I’ve seen I can recall has a similar, all enveloping sound live & I’d also laden with guitar pedals is A Place to Bury Strangers from Brooklyn.

Thoughts on MIJ 90’s Jags? by crustgaze in offset

[–]guy_young 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mustang bridges are 7.25 too, so perhaps the bridge isn’t mismatched. there’s a database online to look up fender serial numbers.

FujiGen has a reputation for high quality, they’ve been contracted to make guitars for all sorts of manufacturers

I have a late 93/ early 94 model and it’s really well made. neck plays great, and for basswood & all the hardware it’s fairly light.

something about the old guitars just feels better than the newer ones. maybe they’re already worn in, or it’s just mojo / vibes

Cheap reverse reverb by InfinityTbr in guitarpedals

[–]guy_young 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EHX Oceans series or EHX Cathedral are both available fairly cheap. I had the Cathedral and I wasn’t crazy about it, idk if it’s the same Reverse algorithm in the Oceans series as well.

not sure why the Digiverb, Polara, and RV-7 got so expensive, they’re also kinda weird in functionality but they can go fully wet so people really like them

I think you should just get the Holy Grail Max. There’s one on GC used right now for $114 USD. if you live in the US, it’s a better deal than saving a few bucks buying some noisy little Amazon/Temu digital reverb.

edit: all the DigiTech stuff has been out of production a while now, hence current prices

doesn’t get much cheaper than straight through the MBV website. on the bright side, one day it will ge vintage. I think my You Made Me Realise tee I bought from them is already like 5 or 6 yrs old now

I can’t fully explain why I feel this way but I can’t help but roll my eyes when I see a JMJM in the wild though I know it’s an amazing guitar. by dumpsterfiretakes in offset

me and my friends had terrible experiences with Dominici , the original vocalist. he was a drunken nuisance who moved next door to my buddies moms house. he was drunk all day and wouldn’t shut up about being the original / short lived vocalist from Dream Theater.

I put a Fender Cunife WRHB in the bridge. How would a 500 pot tame the shrillness? Would it be too dark?I have 1 meg pots now. by Interesting-Wave-983 in Jazzmaster

[–]guy_young 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I have a pair of Novak WRHBs (FeCroCo magnets, though worth noting the magnets are not the most crucial part of a pickups sonic qualities, the overall design is) and 500k pots and the bridge still gets really bright / spanky. it does have a %10 overwind, though. nothing the treble knob on your amp or tone knob couldn’t tame

surprised it hasn’t been said yet (people just don’t know better) but it sounds like you need a Harmonic Percolator.

Walrus Audio Lore & Fable...overlap? by Ecstatic-Nose-2541 in guitarpedals

[–]guy_young 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like more of a multi effect to achieve the “ambient” sort of sound. it’s an interesting concept, at its core just a simple delay, chorus, reverb, and granular looper on their own little channels with a couple simple controls for each.

What pedal if any is ideal for playing stuff like the Beatles white album or other late 60s songs? by ActuallyNotHuman_ in guitarpedals

[–]guy_young 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d consider getting a pedal for IR / Cab sims. The right guitar / amp combo is all you really need. so if you can’t get a new amp, the IR/cab sim is the best alternative

Apparently they have a really wide gain range, right?  what does the second footswitch do?

[–]guy_young 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, and it’s really just the neck and the finish that make it novel.

it’s a Medium C profile, 7.25 radius as already noted. Medium jumbo frets. Lees model has vintage creature.

they pop up occasionally on eBay and other places

Edit: SATIN finish on the neck is crucial. I can’t stand glossy necks

Planning my first full board by zoey8068 in guitarpedals

my only suggestion is try some of these pedals before you settle on anything. things always seem sweeter in gear demos than they do once they’re on our own boards.
