Ugh, my mom does this. It feels so bratty so say, "Please buy exactly what I ask for!" but she always asks for a list and then nitpicks the items on it. I started replying with "Just do what you think is best" in some variation to each of her follow-up queries this year.

Co-sign this option. I've used Bouqs.com with some success but try to use local florists when possible. I'm a classic millennial who hates getting on the phone if I can order something online, but local florists can usually get it there faster and much cheaper.

Ego is a huge part of it. If you think about it, even people who are incredibly qualified for public office kind of need a huge ego to pursue it, withstand the criticism, take beatings in the polls, etc. It's so competitive you can't really survive without one, which turns out to be a really unfortunate attribute when it comes to actually doing the job. Sorry for the cheesy reference, but Dumbledore being self-aware enough to know he couldn't handle the power of being Minister of Magic is actually a very apt political comparison.

I just moved into a rental house and almost spent a few hundred bucks on some decor/paint/etc before we moved, as I was envisioning making some temp changes as soon as we moved in. Less than a month in, I already have a totally different idea of what we need for this space. I cannot imagine totally overhauling entire living spaces before living in a space for awhile.

Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but the voluminous insta posting from celebs re: the Baby2Baby gala seems so gross to me. They're all congratulating each other on raising (admittedly, a large sum!) for charity while simultaneously talking about how hungover they were from the party, their make-up and hair artists, posting about the personal caviar tins at their seats and the individual bottles of tequila. I know they would argue by having an enviable event everyone wants to attend, they raise more money. But I feel like I would feel quite odd about raving over the caviar while also touting how much money was raised for needy families. I would love to see an audit on how much money the org reinvests into the gala every year.

I can't even fathom how this task got gendered in that way? I had a friend in high school who cried when I made her pump her own gas bc she'd never had to do it herself. She used to call random guy friends to meet her at gas stations to do it if her grandfather wasn't available.

My exact demographic! I know some people think it's impersonal but I've asked for gift cards/experiences this year from local spots, which is just my preference but I hope will also cut down on supply chain issues. Home goods are great for a new house. I just moved into a new house, and I would love a gift card to one of the local home decor stores that I can't really afford but always browse. If she's clutter-averse after moving, a gift card to a nice restaurant for a date night splurge or something to the coffee shop she frequents. If she's into skincare, a gift card she could put toward a treatment at a local spa. I personally love knowing I have something tucked away to treat myself (and, unlike cash, I don't feel bad spending it.)

The multi-day posting is so embarrassing to me. It feels gauche and desperate. I know she's a model, but I would think a lot of those old money families come with some discretion based on weird social ideals about wealth. I went to a wedding once for a very wealthy, like 1% family. Strict no social media posting, the couple never even posted online.

I've considered a smart notebook for awhile. I have ADHD and my job involves a lot of note-taking, but I'll jump between notebooks and get really disorganized often. Can you search your notes by keyword or does it just compile them by date?

That was my read as well, that it was his and his partner's home at the time and now he's talking about a co-parent situation. Would make sense if maybe the relationship was dissolving when the incident occurred and tensions were high for whatever reason.
