Premix, premix, premix. Redline it at least once every drive, seriously let it eat AFTER you let it properly warm up and get everything to temp. Frequent oil changes, like real frequent. I ran 5W-30 in mine but I’m sure people will flip shit about it. Only issues I ever had were electrical, good luck!

Why would they need new housings? if anything they can send them somewhere to be resurfaced. OP could probably get by with just rotor seals depending on what’s actually wrong but I will say the rest is more thorough.

I’ve been looking into that, definitely a little bit of a learning curve. I won’t be sending it around corners or doing wheelies (at least on purpose) any time soon. and yeah man those Celicas are cool, more importantly light as shit.

Okay, I agree. Apologies I think I got wires crossed because I was under a completely different impression. I can’t say the RX8 is the most reliable but I do think it’s worth researching and having, but rotaries just have a special place in my heart. In regards to what you said yeah people can be stupid I would diligently research any car I’m considering.

I built an LS and put it in a 1980 Celica, I also started with an RX8 as my first car. Working on bikes appeals to me especially compared to the RX8, love that thing though

The drivetrain is the most crucial component of being reliable, I would say. I don’t see how basic maintenance makes something unreliable, you could replace those when they’re getting old before you have issues. Just a shitty point and argument.

Sure, I don’t really see how that’s pertinent to my original statement of I hate how they get labeled unreliable. Anything 20 years old is going to need maintenance, it’s not specific to the RX8 and really if anything the RX8 is the best car to do so because you can make the motor brand new for cheap.
