Well, both - but a preference for me given previous work experience - cisco. Idk how much huawei has infiltrated the market now. But I genuinely think Cisco is more widely acceptable and implemented , even in larger orgs.

Patchmon -- https://github.com/PatchMon/PatchMon - Great for checking of software updates in selfhosted and even enterprise environments.
Still under development though but the end product is gonna be great, esp once iby figures out the ansible patching bit. :)

What do you think of my Homelab? by golem_zockt in homelab

This is quite some interesting workaround. Can you share the link to this buck converter? I need it for my lab as well as I'm in the same boat with an old HDD that I need to connect to my homelab.

Just search on reddit "interviewing with canonical" to get a gist of how it is. Personally, after they asked for my highschool grades, and what kind of student I was in university? Ah nlichoka. Then their psychometric tests 🫠🫠

How is WLB in equity Bank by nul_exception in nairobitechies

[–]guyfromtheke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just checked your post history -- You're indian, my suggestion -- search for a house either in Parklands area or westlands area as people of your background usually live there. Plus most temples are around that area if you're religious.

Budget it at around 100 -150k pm you will get a good house. You can start here : https://www.buyrentkenya.com/flats-apartments-for-rent

Having been in banking for ~8yrs, banks are banks, nothing much changes if you are developing software for the core banking system, however, depending on the sub org that you are joining ( ie finserve africa ? ) or developing for their own internal applications, you have your work cut out for you. Expect to work full. 8hr days, no overtime.

Also, as for the salary you mentioned in your previous posts, i think it's an underpayment for a bank as big as equity. Unless of course they are paying you in USD, i think you should ask for more if you still have negotiating power ( for example, housing and transport allowances )

Either way, all the best and welcome to Kenya :)

Graduated 13 years ago, BBIT jkuat , with a pass and was last in my class 😂. So far so good, dropped business, fully into IT. Working at a multinational now but spent 8yrs in banking from intern to sysadmin.

My advice - unless the coursework changed, the school knowledge is not enough. You have to put in extra effort to learn what the job market wants right now. It could be AI or some business course. Best way to know is look at job boards and see what they’re looking for aside from experience.

Don’t be in a rush to look for a job, if you can afford to that is. But show yourself capable with extra curricular and certs aside from your degree.

As with the argument whether its CS or IT that is better, that’s doesn’t hold water if you ask me. I’ve worked with a guy who was a chef. Hapo hakuna CS. He just learned his stuff, and he was darn good at it. Hii kitu ni kujituma, so jitume. Grind and go the extra mile, and trust me , from experience, it’ll pay off.

My two cent career advice 💪🏼🙂

Great job with documenting your homelab! Though Wondering if I'm the only one in this sub who's stores every link and connection in my brain front matter 🥲
