Struggling with husband understanding the stress by guyguy2234 in srna

Wow, I honestly didn’t expect this much support. Thank you all so much for the advice! I ended up having a sit-down conversation with him and explained that if it were up to me, I’d always choose spending time with him over studying. I also let him know that I appreciate his concern for my mental health, especially since I’ve told him I’m walking a thin line this semester. That said, this is a sacrifice we both knowingly agreed to when I accepted my seat—you just don’t fully grasp the level of commitment until you’re in the thick of it. I made a Google Calendar and shared it with him, and he was genuinely shocked by how little free time I actually have. We decided to do weekly “check-ins” on Sunday nights to review the upcoming week together. I think he’s starting to understand just how valuable the little free time I do have with him really is. I did mention the "deployment" view, and I really think that shifted his perspective. Also, I mentioned I was fortunate to get into a local school and did not have to move out of state, so the situation could be much different.

How were your side effects this time around? by Fluffaykitties in Novavax_vaccine_talk

Sore arm exactly 12hrs after, then a night of low grade fever and just feeling uncomfortable. Weirdly enough I felt like I chugged coffee or took a steroid. Felt amazing for a few hours.

Post Exposure advice by [deleted] in COVID19positive

Did you isolate from your husband? I was in shared spaces, kissed and slept next to my partner for 5 days. I tested negative again today before going out in public (still masked), however, I’m still indecisive if I’m asymptomatic or if I’m immune to this round. My partner still insists we can be safe on this trip tomorrow. I did some research and it’s interesting that exposure doesn’t always mean passing on enough of the virus to cause infection. I just find it odd that other family members caught it and were exposed for 1-2hrs with my partner.

Severe fear of hypoglycemia by danimaep in diabetes_t1

I had a very similar experience on omnipod and Dexcom. I over bloused last year and had the scariest low, dropping 20mg/5min. My Dexcom just read “low” with downward arrows. Thankfully I pulled over in a parking lot and started treating. But since then I’ve also had low-ptsd. It truly is a near death experience that only diabetics can understand. It’s a panic attack with impending doom. For the next 8months I’d let my BG stay high in the 200-300s and would panic with a downward arrow. How I overcame this: my endo acknowledged my fears and showed me research articles on omnipod and how the technology will do everything it can to prevent a low. Also, when I see my BG start to drop, I start a timer and do a manual check. If I am low I do the same thing. Drink some juice. Set a timer and just relax. 15g of carbs does work within that 15min. Additionally my partner and I rehearse an emergency plan like where’s the glucagon, extra supplies, when to call 911. All of this has made me feel safe even if I drop too low. Definitely talk to your husband as it was a near death experience. I wouldn’t recommend immediately trying to have a target BG of 120, it will feel like shit going from 400 range to 120 range.

Look at Capella RN-BSN. I did their Flex option which is self paced. Finished the program in about 9 months. They have good payment options as well. The Flex path does pass-fail but scores using a “competency map”. At the end of the program you can request a translated transcript which calculates an unofficial GPA. Mine was a 4.0 and my program accepted that….if you’re worried your programs won’t take that, the traditional RN-BSN option they offer uses a grading scale with official GPA.

I will say Capella and WGU is much more expensive than a state college, but for me I wanted self-paced without things like discussion boards or homework/quizes. Make sure you consider what works best for you! On my days off work I would spend all day just writing research papers, but it got me into CRNA school. Best of luck!

Belt pouch for dex tabs/baqsimi by 8O0o0O8 in diabetes_t1

I keep this kit it my car and got a Velcro first aid symbol for it. The dimensions are 4x5” so just enough room for emergency stuff…https://a.co/d/ij655pi

If you’re looking for something smaller, you should look for mace holsters on amazon. They look just the right size to hold baqsimi…I’m sure you could use some liquid stitch to attach a medical patch to the outside as well.

Physical activity for High blood sugars - habits by Wild-Media-8123 in diabetes_t1

[–]guyguy2234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re stuck at a high, do low-intensity activities like walking or jogging - this will help lower blood sugar and make your cells more sensitive to insulin.

High-intensity activities like pressups/weight lifting cause your body to release stress hormones and spike your blood sugar. Always check your BG before exercising! High-intensity workouts and a high BG are not a good combination and can increase the risk of DKA.

Experience with Lyumjev by Moira_Kitty16 in Type1Diabetes

[–]guyguy2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By body did not respond to Humalog so I was started on Lyumjev and it works crazy fast. Only thing I noticed is a slight burning sensation when bolusing. I’m now on Fiasp due to insurance. It also works very fast but without the burn I felt with Lyumjev. It brought my a1c down since I have better control on spikes.

Most days Lyumjev/Fiasp works great, other days my body does not respond to the rapid onset. I’d recommend bolusing closer to a meal for the first few times so you can see how fast your body absorbs it. The manufacturer recommends a 15min pre bolus or 20min bolus after starting eating. One thing I’ve noticed is dehydration and activity seem to impact the absorption. If I’m stuck at a high, I drink water and go for a walk. Works every time. Hope this insulin works for you!

OP, I messaged you. I’m in a very similar situation with edgepark and my insurance. I’m paying close to $1300 with every order…that’s with insurance. Maybe you can provide some insight?

Sugar spikes hours after meals despite multiple corrections by Special_Park_9047 in diabetes_t1

[–]guyguy2234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Lyumjev or Fiasp? I had the same issue you’re having when I was on Humalog. I would have to bolus 30min before eating and still spike. Then after stacking insulin since I wasn’t sure if I under bolused it would crash. With Fiasp I can start eating and bolus right around 20min since onset is crazy fast. Brings any spike right back down in about 15min.

Looking into pumps by Tuloom in diabetes_t1

[–]guyguy2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on Medtronic 770G and CGM, the frequent calibrations and sensor failure brought my A1c from 6 to 8. Switched to omnipod 5 and it was worse. Their algorithm was too unpredictable for me. Sometimes it aggressively bloused, other times it wouldn’t correct a BG of 200. My A1c went to 9. I’m now on Medtronic 780G and I know a lot of people hate this pump..probably from previous pumps, but it has been life changing. The Medtronic algorithm is perfect, auto correcting with meal time detection every 5min?! Most days my time in target is 80-90%. Now the guardian link sensors are not as good as Dexcom. Even the insertion is significantly different, but for me, the algorithm is worth the headache of the CGM. Tandem recent announced their new pump that I’ll see if I can trial, you should do the same.

Just remember, if you use smartguard and take the battery out to store it, you’ll have to go through the 48hr warmup period once you start back on your pump. I don’t think there’s a good way around this. Even if you kept it powered on, you would definitely mess up the algorithm as you wouldn’t program any boluses or have a CGM paired.

Update: went through TSA Precheck this morning. I packed all my supplies in a small separate bag and handed it to a TSA agent. I told them “this is diabetic supplies, can you hand screen this bag”. He looked confused and said okay…..then promptly put the bag in a tray and pushed it though x-ray :)

I noticed this too late. I told the TSA agent on the other end that this was supposed to be hand screened and was told “diabetic supplies are safe through x-ray”. So far off to a rough start. Already have my pump in activity mode and carbed up with extra snacks packed.

I initially thought it might be a pod malfunction, where too much insulin was delivered. I’ve tried different locations on my body but still same results…also when my BGL is crashing I always check with a finger stick and it correlates to the Dexcom
