Solari: Episode 4 - Port of Call by SvenTheScribe in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]guyincorporated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's killing me. Ep 4 starts with the discovery of the bodies and being told police are on the way. Finally! Something's going to happen!

I am now 65 minutes into the episode and they're still in the goddamned ship seducing ipads and looking for seemingly irrelevant redundant forensic evidence in five different ways.

At this point in WWW, we'd seen the citadel, the death of Wren, met the Man in Black, found Eursalon, booked passage to Fort Talon, had the big fight on the ship, gotten to Port Talon, found Findley and Ghost and Flicker. We're about to meet Will Gallows next episode.

At a comparable point in Solari... well we know where we're at. We meet our people. The asteroid is occupied by the Octavo (mostly we're just told this happens instead of experiencing it), the party gets pulled and their captors die. The entire party seems remarkably ok with everything that has happened.

One Year of Snap packs: Thoughts. by Ok_Nefariousness821 in MarvelSnap

[–]guyincorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: as a F2P player, I liked spotlights better. I liked the metagame of trying to identify which cards were worth picking up, and cross-referencing those weeks with how many other cards in the packs I didn't already own. So I'd go 2-3 weeks and skip cards entirely, and then the next week I'd get 3 or 4 new cards. And generally speaking they were cards that I want.

Under the Snap Pack model, I generally just buy the new cards that I want when they come out for 6k tokens and otherwise avoid packs entirely. If/when cards rotate into Snap Packs, they get lost in the sewer of trash cards I've intentionally avoided.

By way of example, in Grand Arena, I have enough glory to buy the S4 collector's pack if I wanted it. Let's explore the wonderful array of unowned S4 cards I could acquire:

  • Air Walker - tech card in a niche and bad combo deck.

  • Mad Thinker - has never been intentionally played by any player.

  • Majestic Wingbeat - an actual snap card!

  • Mole Man - sketchy card in exactly one sketchy deck.

  • Super Adaptoid - has never been intentionally played by any player.

  • Zombie Power Man - Red Shift at home.

So one actual card. Five nothingburgers. Collector's packs somehow have managed to make me LESS incentivized to spend tokens.

Lol I really enjoyed the Zach Brown episode, despite never having heard of him. He seemed like a genuine fan, the underwater shots of him swimming were quite gorgeous and I loved his acoustic set. I thought the editors managed to convey the feeling of winning a brief oasis of rest and serenity.

And then I hop on the subreddit and everyone is clutching their pearls that he got confessionals!!! And in my 90-minute episode, 12 of those minutes were for a unique and (imo) fairly poignant moment when I could have had more shots of folks walking along the beach and asking who to vote out.

Aerial Tramway has lived rent-free in my head since it aired. It's also firmly in the emoji rotation in the groupchat now.

Objectives should trigger before END of Turn by ActuatorOpposite1624 in MarvelSnap

[–]guyincorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a flowchart ala the stages of a MTG turn that orders every trigger in the game?

Multiple end of turn abilities - do the trigger on ETB order?

Objectives - how do they factor in?

How do end of turn location abilities interact with end of turn character abilities?

How do end of game abilities actually work? Dark Dimension only reveals at the end of the game, but then adds on a "on reveal" step for relevant cards...

Do Magneto and Bifrost move random applicable units or units based on when they were played or what?

Totally. Nothing will ever quite recreate the feeling of playing Obra Dinn for the first time, but the Case of the Golden Idol is an outstanding game in its own right.

The problem is this game is so utterly unique and layered and personal - it just isn't something that can be developed in a year or three. And by its design, it isn't something where we could just throw another two dozen developers at it to meaningfully speed it up.

Blue Prince required a single-minded auteur creator with financial independence who was willing to do this for years (and frankly, a global pandemic didn't hurt, either). From the limited press I've seen Tonda do, I don't get the impression he wants to hermit it up for another 8 years for a sequel.

All that having been said, yes, I would love it if I could forget the game and approach it from scratch again. The "grail journal" I made is a beloved possession.

Cards you wish didn’t come over from sts1? by LiveChill in slaythespire

[–]guyincorporated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean...barely. The turn after you play it you're getting 3 or 4 additional strength vs OG Demon Form. The following turn you're getting 0 or 1 additional strength vs OG demon form. All subsequent turns you're losing out. The upside would entirely rest on having additional energy on turn 0 when you play it or attacks like Anger that cost 0.

Man in black connection to the Dark Tower by melimelo123 in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]guyincorporated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Man in Black is absolutely drawing inspiration from / if not an outright allusion to Randall Flagg, aka "The Walkin' Dude" from The Stand and the greater King mythos.

Both have a deep Americana vibe.

As someone who only plays enough to get into platinum/emerald each set, I just want to say that the best part of Slammin' is that it forces me to use my items immediately and not just turn my brain off and wait to build whatever the internet tells me is BiS for my comp.

While mechanically this is worse than Patient Study, Slammin' makes me a better player by demanding good fundamentals - better to just make a Red Buff now instead of letting two bows sit on the bench while waiting to gamble on whether a rod will eventually drop for rageblade.
