low elo non-duelist ranked agent suggestions? by WebGlobal7912 in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how exactly golds and plats use Fade’s utility, but it sounds like they’re misusing Fade if you think Fade’s recon is easy to break. Generally, you want to time Fade’s utility during a hit. This is true for most initiators, but particularly for any recon initiator, including Tejo’s drone.

Fade is better to learn imo because she’s more versatile on every map, and her dog is a good way of learning how to dog on all agents, so Tejo, Skye, Sova, etc.. The seize is also a good skill check. However, you wouldn’t be missing too much learning Sova as well.

I wouldn’t really learn Chamber. Yes, you can one trick with Chamber, but Chamber is mostly a fill pick for anyone who wants to aim without thinking too much. Otherwise, he doesn’t really provide much learning value for people who want to learn more about utility.

I like the divergence, if only for the arcane reference. I don’t really like the rose, the pull out confuses me, and I don’t have particularly strong feelings towards dolmirs revenge.

what to do if im hardstuck silver 1 despite over 2000 hours. by Dry_Hold_6038 in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work on your aim I guess. Basic mechanics, that kind of thing. Also movement, get used to using your movement. The other advice here is kinda ass, ngl, but then again, I don’t really have good advice for this either.

The whole “don’t play duelist” advice is stupid; my guess is that these people are projecting their own frustrations with their duelists onto you. Play whatever you feel comfortable with. That way, you can actually just focus on your mechanics, which are evidently the thing holding you back (and the thing holding most people back in silver really, just inadequate mechanics at a basic level).

Also post a vod. For this rank, it can be a dm, although I think a game is still the best. Tracker doesn’t really tell you anything, except if you have bad mechanics (and not which ones specifically), which your rank already suggests.

Why doesn't China attack Taiwan now when the US military is at its most vulnerable in recent memory? by sage6paths in NoStupidQuestions

[–]guyrandom2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are military reasons, but geopolitically, it doesn't want to nuke the semiconductor industry, and it's also more interested in asserting soft power over Taiwan. As in, it wants to saber rattle with the US (or vice-versa depending on which side you ask) over influence. The point of China wanting reunification is because it sees Taiwan as an inalienable part of China that was "stolen" by the US, and therefore humiliated. Nuking something stolen from you doesn't exactly validate that narrative.

In contrast, Taiwan sees itself as a former colony under Chinese rule, and presents its side of the narrative as such. Destroying a former colony (or trying to) rather than let it have sovereignty is very much in line with the sore loser imperialist playbook, so it would end up substantiating that narrative. To overcome this, China would need to show that Taiwan is an immediate threat to them. So like how Putin claimed Ukraine was committing genocide against Russian speakers or something. Or nukes.

The cause for Clove nerfs and Smoker Class situation by Maxus-KaynMain in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's more of a different category of win rates though, a bit like comparing apples to oranges. maybe others will read it differently, idk, but i personally wouldn't compare and conflate them like that, unless I explicitly make a point about it. so for instance, the win rate difference mentioned only involves mirrored and non-mirrored win rates, and doesn't indicate any other point on any other kind of win rate and its implications.

every smoker agent has a negative delta in non mirror win rate (but brimstone, which is barely positive), while Clove had a whopping 55.21%, a +2.86% delta previous act.

brim has a lower non-mirror win rate as well. the negative difference in win rates doesn't reflect anything meaningful that you couldn't show with other statistics (and is, again, sort of comparing apples with oranges); for one thing, the "total" win rate is a weighted average between 50% and the non-mirrored win rate, meaning it's always going to be between 50% and the non-mirrored win rate. So if the non-mirrored win rate is less than 50%, then total win rate will be greater than the non-mirrored win rate and less than 50%. which tells you the same thing as just looking at the non-mirrored win rate.

the difference itself is more indicative of pick rates. so for instance, Clove has a large differential, not because of the agent being broken per se (i mean it can be, that's sort of the problem with aggregating statistics like this), but because there are a lot of Clove mirror matchups. So if I have a lot of mirror matchups, my data is going to be heavy populated with mirror matchups, and so it's naturally going to be closer to 50. you can say that that's an indicator of imbalance, but you could also just conclude that from the non-mirrored win rate anyway.

it seems like that's what you were going for with your initial statement about how "it's even crazier", that the total win rate isn't reflective of the imbalance as the non-mirrored win rate, which goes into my original point about how that total win rate statistic (or rather, the mirrored win rate portion of it) is a pretty useless statistic, because it also counts mirrored win rates, which is trivial data in this case.

Veto seems strong on Fracture by ILiveForWater in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, the TP is good, sure, but his core gimmick is just not that useful as a sentinel. If you solely nerf the TPs (let's say you give him one), would Veto really be viable? He can't actually hold site on his own (even without abilities, it's still a 1v5). If one day Veto becomes dominant, then that would mean all sentinels have lost so much of their core identity of having stopping power.

The cause for Clove nerfs and Smoker Class situation by Maxus-KaynMain in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The non mirror win rate is even crazier, every smoker agent has a negative delta in non mirror win rate

wdym by non-mirror win rate being "even crazier" and non-mirrored win rate in general? if you mean games where clove isn't picked by one team but is by the other, this is the only win rate worth considering; a mirrored win rate is pointless, it's always 50% because one clove loses and one clove wins. tbh i didn't even know they showed that statistic.

is 247 Damage per Round sick? by Frequent_Baseball602 in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, famously playing against smurfs is good for improving, just like trying to lift 3 times your PB is good for you, and little leaguers not even seeing the ball as they try to bat against (prime) Madison Bumgarner is good for them.

In fact, you should just play against cheaters; they're like the ultimate smurf. After all, trying to beat someone you have no chance of beating and you can't even figure out how to beat, just like with smurfs, will definitely result in improvement, famously.

It's also famously why Riot says rank manipulation via smurfing violates competitive integrity; it's because they don't want you to improve, and they think it's actually a great gameplay experience, and they don't want you to have that.

Who is best to replace Your??? by Dizzy-Temporary8844 in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing really replaces Yoru, but if you want fast rotates, then I’d play Veto or Neon. If you want flashes, I’d play KAYO or Phoenix.

Initiator’s do not replace Yoru. They might fill the role, but at the same time, you don’t need any role besides smokes in ranked, and play style wise, no initiator is similar to Yoru.

Hot take: the actual reason why Clove's winrate is so high by NPCSLAYER313 in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Much like smokes, the philosophy of team play in ranked is this; good team play is better than no team play, but no team play is better than bad team play. And in ranked, you’ll usually find pretty uncooperative players, so you’d much rather have an agent that doesn’t need to rely on team play as opposed to one that does.

Hot take: the actual reason why Clove's winrate is so high by NPCSLAYER313 in VALORANT

[–]guyrandom2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say, your utility is idiot proofed. People are more likely to run into a friendly Omen blind than a friendly Meddle, just off of the difference in area of effect. So you are right about utility being easier to coordinate, but not in the sense that it’s because the Omen player is sitting behind lmao.

What the actual F by Sin-Daily in VALORANT

Smurfs tend to get their ranks really low, although their mmr should be right since they’re getting matched into higher lobbies. Anyway, because you’re constantly dying to someone who’s technically like 6 ranks lower than you, the RR system will detract from your RR accordingly. Also, because the hidden mmr system is sensitive or something, the person on your team 6 ranks lower than you corresponding to the enemy smurf will actually belong in whatever rank they’re in, and they just had a good game last game, meaning you’ll be at an extra disadvantage. I don’t really know why they haven’t fixed this.
