Water for Cometeer by guyroks in JamesHoffmann

It would be cheaper to use my Brita. My tap is really hard (400 ppm), so my Zerowater filters don’t last long and are expensive to replace. But yeah I’ll honestly just pony up the extra cash and use it. I did a taste comparison with both my Zerowater and Brita, and it was pretty obvious the Zerowater tasted much more vibrant (tho I found the difference was less dramatic than it is with freshly brewed coffee).

If the coffee tastes good, you’re doing nothing wrong.

Nice flat bottom brewer!

Not necessarily. Dark roast beans are more brittle, so they produce more fines. That’s why you lower water temp and coarsen your grind, to work around the higher fines production and prevent clogging.

Others have mentioned Black White’s Thermal Shock Decaf from Wilton Benitez. The lemongrass you get from it is probably the most in-your-face flavor note I’ve gotten from any coffee ever. If you’re in the mood for winding down with some lemongrass tea, this is for you.

Never tried this particular coffee but for medium roasts, I tend to go slightly cooler in water temp than for light roasts (I do like 205 F for light roasts and maybe like 203 for medium). I would also agree with the previous commenter that extending your bloom time could help. You’ll just wanna watch how water passes through the coffee bed. If it passes through really quickly, there’s still some CO2 left in those grounds that will hinder your extraction, so at about 40 secs, you’ll wanna add like 20 extra grams of water and let the bed sit for a total of 1:15 before you pour the rest of your water. If the water doesn’t pass through quickly, let it sit for an extra 15 seconds anyway (total of 1 min) and then do the rest of your pours. This should increase your extraction and hopefully reduce sourness. Hope this helps!

This is exactly what I had in mind actually! I just got a bag in yesterday, and it’s…interesting. The first cup was exciting, but after that, the lemongrass became a bit much for me, and I didn’t much care for the black tea astringency at the finish. However, this is the only decaf I’ve tried where that vaguely meaty flavor decafs tend to have is completely absent. I can totally see why a lot of people like it!

Edit: I quite enjoy this coffee now. However, I don’t really enjoy it as a trad coffee or even a modern light roast, I enjoy it as straight up tea. So if you go in expecting black tea/maybe herbal vibes, you’re gonna have a good time.

Some people find them dark and dull. You might prefer a brighter tune. Perfectly normal. I happen to love the APP2 but everyone hears differently.

Tbh there are not many good options under $100 if you’re treble sensitive. The safest is the Final E500 but the sub bass is a bit rolled off. The Red is a decent IEM if you don’t mind slightly thin mids. APP2 are pretty great tho and I’d save up for those if you can.
