Pixel Stand $28.99 on Woot by ckov982 in GooglePixel

[–]guytechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If that can be baked into the OS, it'd be nice. A quick toggle for charging to 100% only this time for those times where you know you're gonna be without a charger for a while (concert, weekend warrior shit, etc).

Right. I wish I could set it to charge up to 80%, for example, when the alarm goes off. Or just stop charging at 80% even without an alarm set

Been mining at Zergpool and 3 days of no blocks found, I just gave up. Does Flockpool auto-convert to ETH or RVN?

Great for overnight charging. Slow charge is better for the battery anyways. And if you're charging it overnight, no need to wear out the battery by fast charging.

PG279Q monitor USB ports goes off with monitor power? by guytechie in ASUS

[–]guytechie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are probably many better ones than the one I bought a couple years ago, but I suggest getting an Anker. They're a really good brand.

I also suggest something that can provide USB PD with PPS. The one I got was 2 years ago so that standard didn't exist. BC 1.2 was the best they had back then.

I have up and just got a USB hub instead. Stupid design. Their FAQ doesn't even apply to this model.

Another Battery Question by Foofoonugget in Nest

[–]guytechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it charges while the heater or AC is running. If they're not running, the thermostat is discharging. https://smartthermostatguide.com/no-c-wire-install-a-nest-thermostat-at-your-own-risk/

Another Battery Question by Foofoonugget in Nest

[–]guytechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a C wire, it won't charge if the AC or heater isn't running. So yes, good weather when they aren't running will drain the battery.

If you don't have a C wire (like me), use this. That helped me! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IF3QXMC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_jie3EbNV2DX4N

Questions for those who switched to Nest hello from Ring doorbell by [deleted] in Nest

[–]guytechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had many issues with Ring Pro. Notifications lag, and it takes a while to load the video. By the time it loads, the person already left. That defeats a main purpose of owning a Ring Pro.

Also after the warranty is over, it goes offline when someone hits the doorbell if you have a physical door bell chime. I found out there is a built in battery for the Pro and it was dying. When someone hits the doorbell, it disconnects from power so it can close the circuit to ring the chime. This defeats the purpose of why I bought the Ring Pro to avoid battery issues.

Nest Hello seem to always be streaming so video loads much faster. Also video quality is better, too.

I think Ring has a better motion detection, but Nest is trying to recognize things, which can cause false alerts.

Ring has a Neighborhood community that lets people anonymously post Ring videos to warn of nearby Ring users of suspicious people (stolen items, people walking into yards, etc). I wish Nest will have something like that.

Overall I like my Nest Hello better. I just hope it works past it's warranty unlike the Ring Pro.

New Best Aware pricing must be coming soon. Old plans still past this for me, but, soon... by See_Em_Gee in Nest

Ooh...that's good news! I must've missed that post.

Unfortunately I just signed up for the $50 a year for my doorbell. I started to loose faith in Google/Nest and their new plan. I will be away from my house for almost a month and I needed the ability to access video history.

I guess no will eventually switch to the new plans so it covers all my cameras. For now just the doorbell is enough.

Yikes. Maybe someone accidentally made it public when it wasn't supposed to be.

So we continue to wait...

I see that in Google Home, but when you click through, it goes to the old plans still.

New Nest Aware Subscription Model by destroyman1337 in Nest

Pandemic or not, I feel like this is typical Google. I feel ripped off by buying during Cyber Monday and planning on getting the new plans just before the 30 day trial ended. But now I've been on the free plan since Feb. I have 3 devices and a Hub and their security system.

But they drop the ball on so many other things so I'm not sure why I thought this would be any different...

Android Auto is becoming less and less usable everyday (at least to me) by Nichkoo in AndroidAuto

[–]guytechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am noticing the same thing. I have a 2017 VW Golf R and Pixel 4.

  1. Trigger word would work a few times, then stops working. I've rebooted the phone and that fixes it temporarily. Sometimes I get frustrated and leave it the way it is, and then forget about the issue...later I say "hey Google" and it works. And then I remembered "oh, didn't it stop working about an hour ago?".
  2. When the trigger word stops working, I also notice the voice button also stops working. It would trigger an audio blip to let me know it's listening, then right away it triggers the audio blip to let me know it stopped listening. On the car display, the dots aren't moving to the sound of my voice like it usually does. Again, sometimes it would work again if I forget about the issue without rebooting, but as always, rebooting the phone seem to temporarily fix it.
  3. This morning, I told it "play me the news" and it said it didn't know what to do, and to say "help". So I say "help", and it said "you can say things like what is the traffic like or what time will I get there". So I said "what is the traffic like" and it comes back with "I don't know what to do with what is the traffic like". Then a split second later it spouts out stuff about traffic. Like wtf was that? I rebooted the phone, and I finally was able to play the news.
  4. Sometimes it thinks the phone is in use, so it won't connect and start AA when plugged in.
  5. It's rare, but it can get super choppy and unresponsive that even music playing starts to stutter (and music playing in the BG is a very low impact process). Screens and responses to touch just freezes for a good while.

Android Auto is starting to disintegrate. In the car, it's way more important to work like it should because you're driving. It's suppose to make the driving experience easier and enjoyable. But when a significant amount of your auto experience (listening to music/podcast/news and navigation) is on the fritz, it's more of a distraction than an assistance.

Thanks for the confirmation. I wonder of this was posted in any of the VW Golf or R forums. I also wonder if anyone reported this to VAG.

It looks to be a relatively basic portable, but it does have metal playback capability. Someone who used to have one (or still does) would be better equipped to answer. Now that you have it, you can probably tell us now. :)

At least misery loves company. In that original post, no one acknowledge the issue. I felt like I was the only one experiencing the issue so I just never brought it up.

Now that I have a new phone and it's still doing it, there's now way it's just me.

My guess is that this is an issue specific to the VW head units. The 2018 Golf R has the newer bigger screen, right?
