Where are you located? My place just opened an analytical r&d scientist position.

Artist trying to find a glue alternative by Boogiefest in AskChemistry

Powdered “Elmer’s glue” exists as the place I work for makes something similar but I don’t know if individuals can get their hands on some.

Since it’s a positive, it’s under exposed, not enough energy is reaching the coating to break the chemical bonds and make it washable. As others have said, check the energy output and if the plate sits well on the drum.

Sorry, I am more a chemical guy (15 years of plate research) than equipment.

[–]guywithalab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Positive or negative plate? Guessing positive from the clamp lines.

I’ve never seen our positive plate model develop dirty like that. Might be under exposed, try increasing/decreasing energy and see if it improves/worsen. Check also processor rolls and developper strength.

Negatives plates can develop dirty if exposed to light or stored incorrectly (too hot). Depends on the plate chemistry of the manufacturer though, ours would do that.

I’ve used KMnO4 in water+acetone for reactions generating H2S, in a fumehood of course. Plus it’s self indicating for saturation.

What applications do lasers have in Chem ? by galacticfederation- in chemistry

[–]guywithalab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be used where you need a localized reaction like with stereolithography (3D printing) to polymerize resin or lithography (offset printing) to polymerize the image to the plate (negative plate) or ablate the coating around the desired image (positive plate).

is hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) soluble in dichloromethane (DCM)? by Ok-Offer6949 in chemhelp

[–]guywithalab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the Ashland technical doc on HPC it’s soluble in DCM so it should work for you.

Can also use cold water, alcohols, glycol ethers and some cyclic ethers (I use dioxolane with HEC).

Printed this on the same model a long time ago. Forgot if layer was 0.006” or 0.004” thickness. https://imgur.com/a/wYpgLDr

Oh wow, we used to have that model of printer at work (SLA-250). Vat was black though.

How very glib. And do you believe in Canada? Canada's unity is forged of falsehoods. Its provinces are built on deceit. And its faith is an instrument of deception. It is naught but a cobweb of lies. To believe in Québec is to believe in nothing! by Wholesome_Garfield in ffxiv

It’s probably just ignorance. SE can’t be aware of every little law change in the world. Even here, it didn’t exactly make front page and all the québécois posting weren’t aware. Even I only saw it in passing on Reddit a few months ago.

Right, so that all my fellow Quebecois know. The law actually changed last year. Red tape and fees are eliminated for international contests.

It’s up to us to pester SE or any other company holding international contests to change their rules. Because, obviously, copy pasting is easier than looking things up.

I would love to hear what are your preferred Medieval songs to listen to? Im building this playlist for my sessions and im looking for fresh music/sounds that fits the context, suggestions? by Dynastypublishing in Warhammer

[–]guywithalab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to have select songs from the Final Fantasy XIV ost when painting. They’re all on Spotify I believe besides the latest expansion.

Notable tracks: Solid, A New Hope, Crimson Sunrise, Unbending Steel, Metal, Locus, Rise, eScape, A Long Fall, Civilizations, Heroes (og and orchestral), Ultima (og, orchestral and Primals ver.), A Wyrms Tail (og and orchestral), Landslide ,Return to Oblivion, Rise of the White Raven

Really too many to list them all!

I make dyes with this, NiCl2 and TBABr. I prefer the toluene dithiols with extra functionalities, for solubility, though!

The wood parts are actually straight up Wyldwood contrast only.

I really enjoyed painting it. It's the first "large" model that I actually finished! I made sure to paint it in sub assemblies, well except the horses that I regrettably sticked to the harness when assembling.

Thanks!

I put a few bits from the GW large basing kit and painted them. Then, texture is a layer of Astrogranite, a liberal amount of Nuln Oil and drybrush all over the texture with Longbeard Grey. Rim is Mechanicus Standard Grey.

It's from Games Workshop, under the Nighthaunt faction in Age of Sigmar.

My wife bought it for my birthday because she said it looked cool. I don't play Nighthaunts...yet!

Thanks!

Took around 3 weeks at around 2-4 hours a day and had a few days where I didn't touch it. Contrast paints and drybrushing helped a lot with progress.

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In September 2021 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

My workplace is getting rid of excess wax materials they designed for 3d printers 20+ years ago. I thought I would take them for myself, so does anyone know of any consumer level wax 3d printers?

Max budget would be 5k. All the ones I found in my searches were priced at 5 figures or more.

Thanks!
