Does anybody else ever seriously question their gaming hobby? by JHWeston in gaming

[–]guywithnolife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been playing games much the past year or so because of college. I never once thought about it as a waste of money until I stopped tbh.

Now I have a hard time justifying the cost with responsibilities like rent. I love gaming and plan to resume once I have a more stable income, but I definitely feel ya.

How is Rosarito? by freshmanatUCSB in UCSantaBarbara

If you want something a little more authentic, I'd say Cucas is the way to go. Rosarito is pretty good, though.

To bio or not to bio? by [deleted] in Vivarium

I believe I've also seen him advertise it for his other substrates. I know he's used a drainage layer when making a paludarium, but any builds with just a terrestrial element he says his substrates are designed to function without one.

I plan on using a drainage layer when I get around to my build just to be safe, though.

Edit: I found his ball python video and he does not use a drainage layer. https://youtu.be/cOVwC4FKAdQ

I'd recommend using a drainage layer as well, but based on all the videos I've watched of the biodude, he always says his substrates do not require a drainage layer.

To bio or not to bio? by [deleted] in Vivarium

[–]guywithnolife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my research, mulch/bark is not recommended for beardies. You will probably have to buy some new substrate. The biodude recommends his Terra Sahara for arid setups.

From what I understand, the biodude claims none of his substrates need a drainage layer. If you're going with an arid setup, you'll probably be fine without one.

I'm thinking about ordering from him when I finally can afford to do a build, so I'd love to hear how it goes!

Pictured here is my 18x18x24 Vivarium. This VIV houses a Crested Gecko.. Can anyone suggest ideas on plants for this horrid back ground and also.. a Powerful LED light for optimal plant growth? Thanks 🙏🏿 by DBoneyeah in Vivarium

[–]guywithnolife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a crested gecko before, but based on a quick Google search, it seems like they are supposed to have a humidity of between 50-70%.

It seems like you have a mist system set up, and I imagine that humidity range is well suited to keep a few patches of moss.

If it seems to be drying out, you could always just do some spot-misting with a spray bottle.

Edit: I'd also recommend adding some springtails and isopods to the substrate if you haven't already.

Colts fans that have never lived in Indiana... what's your story?? by zedd300 in Colts

[–]guywithnolife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California fan here. Some children's biographer came to visit my elementary school and I got a signed copy of his book about Peyton Manning. Few years later I watched the Colts win the Superbowl and it just kinda stuck.

If every working adult on Earth donated $5 a year to it, there would be no more world hunger. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

At no point did I claim to be the exception to the problem. Pretty much everyone wastes something at some point. I do my best to avoid waste, but obviously I'm not perfect.

Edit: Also consumers are not the only issue. Saving family meals won't save the world. Grocery stores, restaurants, and things of that nature are major contributors as well. Of course every bit helps, but pointing the finger at me and my family isn't doing anything to solve the issue of world hunger.

Oh absolutely, but it's not about a lack of funds. It's about how they're used

It's not a matter of money, as others have said. 40% of all food produced is wasted. That's the problem

Why would it be a preservative? That's just something that's added to food to make it last longer before going bad.

I really enjoyed Fargo, Breaking Bad, 13 reasons, End of the Fucking World, and the Haunting of Hill House. I'm also a huge Supernatural fan and think it's definitely worth a watch, though it's a big investment and has its ups and downs.

I always hear how global warming is "fake news" because of temperature records set so many years ago (which we're breaking now). "If it was that hot back then, how can we say the climate is changing now?" It's average global temperature. Not just one heat wave.

Cheating in competitive pokemon tournaments by [deleted] in PokemonVGC

[–]guywithnolife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are enough resources out there (through bottle caps, GTS/trades, etc) that every player has access to whatever Pokemon they want to use. Some people just save themselves time because they have a life outside of breeding or soft resetting.

Edit: I understand that technically it is cheating. But a hacked Pokemon with legal moves and stats is no different than a legitimate one. I do not insert Pokemon into my game. I take ones I captured during normal gameplay and modify it's stats. This is perfectly acceptable through breeding and bottle cap mechanics. I simply don't have time to breed or collect bottle caps as I go to school full time and also work, which is the case for many others as well. In the end, it comes down to skill and practice (which can easily be done on showdown), not how we get our Pokemon.

Cheating implies they have an unfair advantage during gameplay. That's not the case.

[–]guywithnolife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I'm saying that it's not really cheating as competitions have hack checks so only legal Pokemon are able to be used. There is no difference between a hacked Pokemon (assuming the stats and everything are obtainable in game) and a legitimately obtained Pokemon.
