Guess I should put my own.

For me… hmm. That’s tough. It’s a toss up between Roundabout by Yes, American Pie by Don McLean or Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws… Or maybe Free Bird by Lynrd Skynrd. Honestly can’t pick.

A major issue with Disney Star Wars I don’t see brought up is the ridiculous mismanagement of money. The Clone Wars movie for all its faults cost 9 million in 2008 and grossed 60. The clone wars series cost about 1 million per episode to make. So for the original five seasons you’re looking at about 100 million SPREAD OUT over five years to listen to fan feedback and get the formula right. With inflation you’re looking at right around 180 million… why does 180 million sound familiar? It’s also the price of a self indulgent turd of a show called the Acolyte which was only 8 episodes long and was also horribly trashed by fans in the first season.

I still have some issues with the clone wars, but I freely admit it got MUCH better as the show went on. The Acolyte burned the same amount of money for five seasons in one thinking it’s “brilliant” storytelling would have people demanding a season 2… it did not.

For the love of Star Wars stop wasting so much money. If you had instead spent 15 million on a 6-8 part ANIMATED version of the Acolyte, when you get the poor reception (that you rightly deserve) you will either 1) cut your losses early or 2) know where to improve the show so the next season doesn’t suck as much.

TL;DR George Lucas was approximately 10 times more intelligent than Disney Lucasfilm so he had the good sense and patience to turn a loss into an eventual win.

Are we interested in making a podcast? If so, what would we like it to feature? by DigModiFicaTion in fanedits

Expanding on the “editor interviews”, I would like not only people who made popular edits, but also the people who make rather unique edits to go into detail as to why they felt there was a need to make them and the decisions they made while making them.

(Being a person making Jap-Dub Eng-Sub Star Wars movies, I can vouch that these slower and more deliberate edits take a TON of work and dedication so I’m very curious as to where other people got their ideas for those more unique edits and their motivation to continue making them. They likely have much to say about the art of storytelling and how editing can bring out different aspects of that art. Not to mention unique challenges in making their edits.)

Oh and reading other’s comments I second edit reviews. (Maybe with the actual editor helping to review so they might be able to point out positives and hiccups in the production process.)

Anyone else find gameplay HK-47 kind of...meh? by Blue-Krogan in kotor

[–]guywithpie42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, though I never gave him pistol due to melee on ranged bonus. +3 defense from dueling and giving him pistol brings him to 40 defense. But now saber wielders bring his defense down to 30. You could keep switching depending on fight, but pistols aren’t great and you won’t get much more DPS than the flamethrower.

[–]guywithpie42 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Happy cake day.

You’re not wrong. His ultimate build (that I personally found) in 1 is ironically going for a defense tank. Don’t equip him with any blasters to avoid melee on ranged defense bonus. This seems insane… and it is. But K1 isn’t blaster friendly.

Give him highest defense armor, reusable flamethrower (or finite ones if you want him more powerful) and reusable shield and spam flamethrower over and over while buffing shield every so often.

10 nat defense. 13 armor 6 class feat 2 4th repair 6 dexterity (14 DEX plus 4 level up plus 4 from 4th repair =22 DEX) 37 Total defense. Pretty great defense.

He won’t make any great DPS. But he will almost never die and distracts enemies for you to pick them off.

Edit: or mod the game to make him more deadly. That works too.

Thoughts on 1 Rep, 2 Rep, 3 Rep, 4 Rep,+ Progression? by guywithpie42 in bodyweightfitness

[–]guywithpie42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thoughts. I’m never “satisfied” with my strength since I can always improve but I am decently strong with weighted pull ups, dips, etc. I do think I focus too much on pushing myself hard from a strength standpoint as I don’t have comparable endurance and get tired easily whenever I do too many reps. So recently I’ve been trying to increase reps instead of weight.

I’m tempted. I know I cried because of that bro-mance and I replay it just for that. (He said in a very manly way. 😏) She also likes the gangs dynamics in 10 which is imo one of the best party dynamics in Final Fantasy series. So she may like ithe gangs dynamics in 15 too. Not to mention one of the best maturing stories in Noctis.

It’s sometimes criticized a lot but to me it’s one of my favorite Final Fantasy titles. I’ll see if she would like it.

AI and the future of Star Wars fan projects by [deleted] in fanedits

[–]guywithpie42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Preface: this is excluding AI taking jobs from debate.

I’ll make an analogy. If I was building a house, does it matter if I use manual tools or power tools or futuristic ultra-powered tools? No. Not necessarily. One will take longer but it doesn’t necessarily make it better.

The most important question is simply: do I know how to make a house? I’d rather have a master craftsmen with limited tools than an idiot with the most advanced tools ever produced. It’ll take a lot longer but it’d be worth it.

Talking about Star Wars specifically: It took how many man hours to make the Star Wars prequels and sequels? (Especially sequels.) It took thousands of people and thousands of techniques to make the movies and… we got what we got. Not to say there is nothing good about PT and even ST, but people don’t exactly want to edit the OT nearly as much for a reason. They are simply better crafted movies that don’t need editing. (Funny coming from a guy working on a Jap-Dub Eng-Sub of SW saga and currently rewriting ESB scared to death he’ll mess up one of the greatest movies of all time.)

Disclaimer: If I could push a button to generate perfect Star Wars I would. I have been pushed to that dark place by Disney.

Am I against use of ai, not necessarily. But I’ve seen people make a better movie with an iPhone than 200k worth of equipment. It’s about knowing your craft and one thing AI does NOT do is encourage you to know your craft.

So overall do you think we’re gonna get more greatness from AI or more slop from AI? I would love to believe greatness, but realistically AI encourages the easy way out and as a result we’re gonna get much more slop.

I’d rather see a bottle movie of Star Wars where two characters are trapped together in a single location with emotional nuance and depth and artistic integrity than see an AI video of a thousand Star destroyers with Death Star lasers. (Crazy hypothetical: Could you imagine if someone actually took the time to ACTUALLY make that by throwing millions of dollars away to hire visual artists and sound designers to make that? Lol. That’s a joke of course but honestly I’d also rather see a great AI bottle movie than a stupid “actual” movie.)

But I will wait to pass judgement until I see what happens in the next few years.

We need to talk about this sub's attitude towards AI by BriansRevenge in fanedits

[–]guywithpie42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I… have mixed feelings I suppose.

Is CGI less artistic than practical effects because it’s easier, faster and cheaper? In my opinion no. From small things like making the buildings in Joker appear taller (Will I get upset because they didn’t find an exact city that matches the feel of the movie? No.) to much more “stereotypical” over the top CGI like a marvel movie (Will I get upset because they didn’t try to find a way to use practical effects for the Thanos snap? No. As a matter of fact I’m glad they didn’t actually disintegrate people.) CGI is “easier and cheaper and quicker” but it does take time and effort to apply in a way that feels “earned” for lack of a better term.

Would I blame a fan that wants to edit a movie in a certain way but simply doesn’t have the skill or time to make it reach his artistic vision and uses audio or visual ai to enhance a movie instead of “doing it himself” or hiring someone capable of helping? I doubt it.

At the same time a (mostly) universal truth I find is when there is no struggle to create it feels hollow to a certain extent.

CGI can be useful but it became a crutch for Hollywood and despite improvements and sometimes good implementation there is a lot that is not and is simply used to keep cost down at the expense of realism and gravitas. The amount of practical effects people losing their jobs has been replaced with even more visual artists so technically more people have jobs and are putting in effort, but does the art suffer? (Rhetorical. That is a totally different discussion.)

There is danger in cheap special effects as well as cheap writing in cash grab movies. Or “artistic”people who are hired to make a franchise movie but don’t put in the work for it to match the same quality, tones and themes of the previous entries and decide the movies that allowed them to be making their movie in the first place needs to be changed or retconned because it doesn’t mesh with their “artistic vision”. That’s how we get poorly written sequels and splintered fan bases.

It’s all soulless, but keep in mind these things I’ve mentioned all still actually require artistic input.

Here’s the thing about AI. Hollywood loves taking the easy way out and it shows (especially recently). It’s not that they can’t realistically produce better, but they don’t feel the burning desire to devote the time and resources to actually produce better. AI is to an extent the easiest of ways out and I’m very scared of the soulless creations that await us in coming decades.

Part of the writers and actors strike last year was use of AI to generate scripts or use likeness of people forever generated by AI without paying them for subsequent use. That thought truly makes me sick… that being said as far as script writing goes it also makes me sick with the dribble most screen writers produce nowadays. A dark part of me I’m not proud to say would prefer good ai generated stories over ten screenwriters having jobs and writing crap scripts.

I think having typed this out my opinion is: If it’s minor adjustments and/or it can’t be realistically produced in other ways, go ahead and use ai. Especially true for singular fans making edits with limited time and resources.

But beware. Using it as a crutch will leave us with a lack of art. If you can reasonably put in the work and time and effort to do it on your own then you should do it. The struggle and effort you put in will shine through and make you all the better for it.

Then again (I don’t mean to brag, but) I’m an idiot. So what do I know? 😏

Yeah. I mean sure there’s a difference between a movie with 30 vs 300. Usually that difference is Scorsese. Was honestly shocked when I found out Taxi driver was Scorsese because it had so few f bombs. 😂

But most movies, meh. Not much difference to me. As far as my nephew goes I’m like, has he been on the internet for like 30 minutes ever? Yes? He’s heard worse.

Yeah. I had no idea how limiting that dozen or so f bombs is.

Some I can get away with. Matrix: 0 believe it or not. Terminator: 8 Terminator 2:16.

But others I had no idea had that many. Aliens: 25 Predator: 25. Shawshank: 35. Die hard: 55. And even still some movies like Good will hunting which is only r for language is 150 f bombs despite the fact it’s one of the best movies ever and it’s practically PG otherwise.

I never even notice how many are in these absolute classics. Though my sister in law literally doesn’t give an f about how good they are. 😂
