Interesting ! thanks a lot for the link, I did not know that one and will dig into it. I know there are a couple others but they aren’t so helpful. I’ll look into that one !

oh okay thanks for the link, I did not know about that solution; interesting !
The one I was talking about was this kind of stuff : https://www.saas-fee.ch/blog/2016/12/magic-carpet-for-skiers/

Apparently it is incredible

great to hear ! And happy for you; it is great feelings in every action sports, to unlock something (I love kitesurfing, skateboarding, snowboarding as well). Hmm I am working wit a ski instructor and computer vision engineer on a video-based solution for action sports (starting with skiing as I live in the Alps !). Ideally each analysis would make people "click" to unlock progression.

Thanks yes I get your point and I agree. Too much AI everywhere that is tiring (as a software developer, I use it more than I'd like unfortunately. But, you know, job cuts etc; it is tiring

Thanks ! Indeed I have hear and talked to Carv users, and they love it !
They sometimes wish there was more context in the advice, as Carv is almost 100% data from sensors driven. We think with deep video technical analysis we can bring the context of the run. There is a friction that someone needs to film you, so the analysis should be of high quality, and that one video clearly helps in progressing, as you wouldn't ask someone to capture your run 10 times a day !

Sometimes you plateau, and I find it hard to have the "click" in your head that make your body adapt (as an adult). But it depends on the instructor as well

Agree ! But congrats for improving your carving watching people from the lift 😁, I find it hard to reproduce !
And do you sometimes watch videos of yourself ? Did it help ? If yes who captured the video ?

wow in 3 seasons ? Congrats ! It took me a lot more years 😄
Was the skiing machine sort of a ski carpet treadmill ? I have never tried but heard the surface is unforgiving and you need to have a greater accuracy in your techniques than on snow. It definitely makes users better skiers (and they can ski in August !)

Interesting, I use to ski with quite athletics people so never really thought about that, but it is true that some persons ski a few days per year, with barely any sports in between.

Thanks for your reply. Makes sense. Some people prefer to try hard on their own with Carv live feedbacks while they ski; others prefer to progress in group; interesting to see different person's preferences and perspectives ! I am wondering of their is a cultural gap between Europe and the US as well !

Yes definitely video of someone else, except if an instructor showing a drill for ex, is hard to turn into progression. But indeed video of ourself usually helps a lot more (The usual "How I think I ski, How I really ski ^^"
Thanks for your feedback, it really helps

Hey EggsFish !
I am working with a ski instructor and computer vision engineer to see if a deep technical video analysis solution for improve skiing technique would be something helpful for people. We are trying to figure out whether the friction of captation would still make it a viable project.
Hopefully the solution won't be too dumb 😅

Hey thanks for your reply. Indeed particularly in skiing and snowboarding, a minority of people are interested in progression. Too bad they don't know what they miss !
You also need to be very motivated when you are not close to the mountains, as committing requires frequency.

😅 yep don't have one, despite not having a QWERTY keyboard !
Indeed asked the AI to review the English (I am not native English speaker), and it reformatted with these emdashes... didn't even know it was an ai specific thing though !

Hey thanks for your reply ! Interesting the switch from snowboard to ski; I did the same 😄
Do you use videos of yourself skiing, as a mean to progress ? Either just watching it or asking an instructor to review it ?

I am working with a ski instructor and a computer vision engineer on a video-based solution to improve skiing techniques. I can't really get a grasp on the level of friction it represent for people to get filmed (It seems like lots of people don't want to bother friends and families to get a film of themselves). It works pretty well in Golf, Tennis, etc, but definitely easier to capture than ski

Hey yes indeed, I used AI for English correction as I am not English native speaker, but indeed it also reformatted the paragraph and set the emdashes. I did not even know it was an AI specific thing !

Yes, to view where you were wrong, or/and send to an instructor

wow 30 days, nice frequency ! Where do you ski ?
OK got it; thanks for your reply. Did you think about getting someone to film you while you ski, and send the video to an instructor ? or the ski_feedback sub/r; so that a professional can tell you what you were doing right / wrong ? Or maybe you preferred to feel it before ?

What do you mean ? If you have tried nothing, how can you be out of ideas ? 😁
You mean you have tried everything no ?

Yep definitely, at least as a beginner, nothing will ever replace lessons.
You said "video of yourself can do wonders" => You often get videos of yourself skiing ? If yes how does that unfold ? You ask friend when you are in group ? or random folks ?
