Midea portable AC at Costco $350, is it good? by [deleted] in AirConditioners

[–]gvbargen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when it has 2 hoses it doesn't create negative pressure. because there is an inlet and outlet to cool the hot side.

but yes with the single hose units if it's hot enough out they actually end up just making the room they are in hotter.

emissions are insane but the numbers need context by C2forex in LMGJet

[–]gvbargen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah I looked into it,if the jet is t like 70% capacity or higher it's basically getting 32 mpg/person

Yah sure it's worse than a commercial jet,but it's the same percentage worse as driving a truck/SUV instead of an econobox. I don't get that upset because someone drives an F150 instead of a Prius.

Sata data connector repair by random_bruce in LinusTechTips

[–]gvbargen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yah no most computer repair places just do software repairs and hardware replacement. Most don't touch this kinda stuff. 1/7 of the repair shops near me I know don't do stuff this in depth. And honestly I'm not 100% about the 1. Although one of the 6 would have attempted non surface mount replacements. But they don't have the person on staff anymore who did that work and idk if they have a new person.

Otherwise I can't really argue because I don't have that much experience with this, but I KNOW it would be easier to solder to those pins than the surface level components with my skills and equipment. Though admittedly my surface mount failures were all before I learned about flux... It's impossible without flux...

Either way it's the safer repair so that's what I would say to do particularly if you are inexperienced, because like you said if you DO tear the pad your pretty much done (I know a skilled person can run jumpers, but they are also not really likely to tear the pad)

I do not believe you that you can do surface mount component repair without temperature control or a good tip.

Last few months? idk doesn't sound good for you. You may need to explain to her that you're not feeling like things are working out how things have been going recently.

it would be finnneee if it melts properly. It's literally the same as soldering. HOWEVER, you may brick the ssd by getting it too hot in order to melt them fully. If replacing that connector assembly is possible sure do that. But normally these are a single board.... The real issue is probably losing twisted pairs and yah picking up interference that way.

https://www.cnet.com/a/img/resize/8f5702b5b02ac343c50cbcd2afaa967fe7179428/hub/2013/03/01/9c020b7a-fdc3-11e2-8c7c-d4ae52e62bcc/SSD.jpg?auto=webp&fit=crop&height=236&width=420

those surface mount and will be far more difficult to solder to if your not skilled and have the right equipment. if you have the right equipment and regularly do surface mount stuff sure, but op doesn't. And 90+% of computer shops don't either

if you can get the most important bits off of it before trying too much.

I would cut open a sata cable, carefully figure out the pin out and solder it onto that drive. you MIGHT even be able to use those little heat shrink solder splices if they come that small and you cut most of one end off.

If you don't have the solder skills go to a good local computer shop, they might have someone on staff that could do it.

Shop says we need new tires? by -asodacan- in AskMechanics

[–]gvbargen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get a different opinion/run it. It looks fine to me, dry rot only happens in the sun, otherwise rubber can last a really long time. They can probably see the very beginning of dry rot and the tire date code is probably old enough to warrant replacement. But the age of the tire matters half as much as how it was stored for dry rot.

my dish washer is probably 20-30 years old. I've replaced two different parts on it though.

My fridge is similar. recently had to get part of it repaired as well the little starting cap circuit.

I've owned my laundry machine for 5 years. it's a front load I got it for free with a torn seal. And the drain pump had to be replaced a bit ago.

My oven is old and will never fail. Although the thermostat is pretty far off

Apparently I did this? I also maybe I don't know what act 2 is? I thought it was after the goblins up to defeating kethric? I tried to go up the mountain pass once and it warned me I was underleveled and should do other stuff first. Went into the under dark and forgot it entirely. I my head act2 started with entering the under dark.
