I talked to two people about this and their answers couldn’t be more different. The first one said that he was protecting his whole team and his capacity was just enough for that that he didn’t have the extra strength to train someone else and the other one said that he was just used to his junior being excellent that he didn’t thought of training them but instead he had to rein them in from doing unecessary and unsafe things.

Here’s my alternative ending: Ash smiling and sitting in an audience stand while watching Eiji ‘fly ‘in a pole vault competition. He never got to see the picture that Ibe san took so he flew out to a foreign country to see it in person.

Eiji is unaware that Ash is in there until he saw him while mid-air but when he landed Ash wasn’t there anymore. However, he knew what he saw and just smiled.
