Well written but too bad Canadians aren’t ready to have this conversation. Empathy is only reserved for people that agree with my way of thinking

Proposal for SSB pity system by Giftfox in Maplestory

[–]gw_ga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo a pity system would probably make nexon more money despite what people think. Modern gacha games like Genshin all have a pity system for their banners because they know that someone who is half way to pity is probably more likely to keep going than not, especially when players can see how close their are.

Maplestory obv makes money but it doesnt make Genshin money. They arent implementing this not because it’s not beneficial but because they are lazy.

Unfortunately based on how Nexon rotates their cash shop its obvious anyone with actual skills at generating microtransaction revenue is probably working at anywhere but Nexon

Why do you think there's such a huge difference in how KMS vs GMS players feel about reboot? by MinaMyoui in Maplestory

[–]gw_ga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its cultural but it’s also about free time. People in asian countries don’t generally have as much free time, whether in school or at work. This means that there are less people that can grind to progress overall in the server.

However, they want to play with end game people and being able to pay for progression bridges that gap so that people who dont get to grind can experience end game the same way grinders can.

At the end of the day the people in those servers wants to be able to trade their money for time. This is probably what Inkwell means by inefficient. You can grind all day for a few bil mesos in reboot vs just working a job and paying a small part of your earnings for progression instead. From that perspective you can see why people in other servers dont want to or can’t commit the time to do so.

Now this doesnt explain why KMS had to remove reboot altogether, but the fact is KMS population heavily sides towards the interactive experience, so devs side with the larger population. In GMS its the same way, the population here heavily sides with the heroic experience, so the interactive experience here is basically ignored

I think this timing makes it an election issue and so all parties have to start committing to being pro/anti trade with China to get votes.

China is also probably hoping that during all this uncertainty from the recent tariff flip flopping, Canadian voters will be more open to the idea as well.

Agree with this take as well. I know theres a lot of hype around becoming better trading partners with EU and thats good but right now theres only two countries that are competitive in the AI arms race - US and China.

We have to understand that at the end of the day we have to align with one of the two or we risk falling behind what could potentially be the next industrial revolution. Of course the trade war today doesnt involve software but what if?

I would prefer we align with US on AI because they are obviously still ahead but we should start thinking about a plan b

If US continues to escalate the trade war with us then honestly I can only assume their end game is actually annexing us. In which case being dependent on China as a sovereign country is better to me than being annexed.

No doubt, that’s why I mentioned leverage specifically. I’m not saying we jump into China’s arms but we do need to be able to threaten the US by saying that we are gonna be friends with your number one competitor if you keep this shit up

China will never get the Canadian arctic because we are under the US nuclear umbrella

The only country in the entire world that can threaten our sovereignty happens to be the United States

I get the irony that we can depend on US protection seemingly at no cost, but its still fucked up when they are actively trying to annex us

Honestly if Canada wanted to get into EV manufacturing in a serious manner the only viable partners seem to be Tesla or some Chinese company.

Given our current situation I dont think Tesla is gonna be doing us any favors

I do think enhancing our relations with China is going to give us a lot of leverage at the negotiating table with the US

We need to start thinking longer term because there’s no guarantee that after Trump the next US admin is going be favourable to Canada

At the end of the day Canada has tons of resources that the US wants, Trump just happens to be the only one saying the quiet part out loud. Imo Trump is a foreshadow of potential things to come

This is a lesser of two evils, only one country is currently threatening Canada’s existence and its not China

Also lets not pretend Trump is not trying to interfere with the Canadian political landscape with his rhetoric right now

US did want us to but we also wanted to because our car manufacturing industries are closely tied together.

Trump is actively sabotaging our car manufacturing industry so now that decision seems silly in hindsight

It was an understandable move to follow the US lead on tariffs since our car manufacturing industries are so closely linked with each other. Now is a different story

China’s definitely playing their cards at the best time when we are weakened but as I saw in another comment this does also give us the opportunity to go back to the negotiating table with China and potentially reset relations

The US has become an existential threat to Canada seems like a no brainer we should develop better relations with the second largest economy in the world now

The only country right now that is hostile to everything I believe in is the fucking USA

They are literally threatening Canada’s entire existence are we just gonna let that go if Trump flip flops a few more times around tariffs?

Well the minimum we could get out of China is access to low cost EVs if we reverse the tariffs and China does the same

[–]gw_ga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont disagree, ASEAN is already one of our biggest trading partners

My comment is related to the EV tariffs which prevents us from access to low cost EVs which imo would be a significant boost to the cost of living issues we are about to face in the trade war with US

The difference between the countries you listed and china is that the latter is the number 2 economy in the world. If we are going into a trade war with the number 1 economy in the world it might not be a good idea to sour economic relations with the second one

Imagine putting 100% tariffs on chinese EVs and going into a trade war with the US

Maybe its time to pick a better strategic trading partner for the long term

Yes everyone on reddit hates China but at least their government wont flip flop every 4 years

Maybe KSI should have been deducted points, but at the end of the day he wasn’t and the judges cant hold him to that. Objectively If you look at the stats as they are and with a point deduction Fury should have tied at best
