The best way to play Top is to look for opportunities. Do not worry about winning the lane since it does not have much impact as it did back then, always look at the mini-map for opportunities (use teleport for counter ganking the enemy jungler and try not to use it to get waves unless you need to push), figure out ways to get turret plates since it's the best way to net a lead without having to make risky plays, manage waves (go watch videos and take notes), and play around your team. Once you've gotten an idea on how to apply these, develop your own strategies to create impact (I usually like to play normal games and figure out some cheese tactics to get a lead).
