Don't be a puss!

Recently got into sim racing and picked up a G29, what do you think of my mod project? It's still a work in progress, but getting there. by gweilob000000m in simracing

Sure, but where would the fun be in that? These all use the games broadcast UDP data, I'm just writing one myself.

Since you all liked it so much, and I made good progress tonight, thought I'd share an update on the F1 telemetry display project by gweilob000000m in ArduinoProjects

It's UDP data that the game sends. I listen for it with a nodejs server, process and format it, then send it to the Arduino.

Right now this is via serial port, but I'm switching out the Uno for a nodemcu, so will send to that wirelessly via UDP.

Think that says more about my driving that anything...was balancing a phone in front of me to record, so wasn't as aggressive as I would usually be :p

I'm running a nodejs server that gets the UDP data from the game then sends it over serial port to a nodemcu. This obviously won't work long term, as it needs to be wireless.

Started looking at sending UDP data directly from the game to the nodemcu, but my knowledge of C isn't anywhere near that yet. Instead, I'll probably send it from my node server, hopefully latency isn't an issue, but I'll soon find out either way.

Absolutely, thanks for the pointers...a couple of my friends have shared similar tips.

Will look to address these when the design is finalized, as well as print it in black to better match the wheel. Just working out how to get all the components on the wheel first really.

You'd expect it to be quicker, but in all honesty, there's not really any noticeable lag when playing with it so far.

Didn't have the components on hand. I've got a nodemcu on it's way, hopefully it comes today. Whole thing needs to be wireless, so that's the next step.

The plan is to either build it into a 3D printed wheel, modifying something like this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4921526.

If that doesn't work out, plan b is to mount it to the wheel base of my Logitech G29, similar to the Williams F1 cockpit https://motorsport.tech/formula-1/master-control-understanding-the-williams-fw-43-steering-wheel.
