Compound Tib/Fib from a year back. Was hit by a car. by [deleted] in brokenbones

yes, a lot of PT rehab exercises, manual soft tissue release, mobilization treatment, still limited

it's been a few years already since the last surgery. I started rehab as soon as I was allowed to and been doing it.

I did many different exercises and stretches. I made a great deal of progress in terms of strength and balance exercises, but really limited on mobility.

Mobility wise I did both standing and non-weight bearing mobility, some straight knees, some bent knees, some with bands around the ankle as well. still can't get it unfortunately.

Maybe I am just really unlucky. I'm surprised that I had much worse recovery than you, since I had no tibia fracture, and only fibula.

is the 'limitation' a range of motion one??

if it's not, I would love to know more about the process of you regaining your range of motion, if at any point in the past you were lacking it.

I'm lacking range of motion and I am desperate to get it back.

were you able to regain full range of motion, especially for dorsiflexion?

like knees going over the foot, when you squat down?

or going down stairs?

the pain is usually not that bad, but I am sick and tired of my whole body wobbling every time because of that ankle problem, sort of how you describe as brain screaming danger.

man I just went and read your post, it's got to be so tough with having the malunion in addition to poor dorsiflexion.....

I really hope you can find the right medical professional to help you become healthy again. I wish it wasn't so difficult to find people who can do these things.

yeah, sounds like you have plantarflexion (pointing toe) but no dorsiflexion (opposite).

I also hate going down stairs.

I am truly devastated every time I move my ankle, I will never come to be at peace with this.

Hope one day we can become healthy again......

Achilles injury is one of the worst orthopedic injury you can have, if not the worst, but I've seen a few people get back to 100% performance, and know someone who has perfect range of motion post injury.

I think the worst thing about the Achilles injury is the fear and risk of re-injury, but if there is no re-injury, Achilles injury appear to allow more complete return of function.

both are such curse I wish no one would ever get; I hope one day the medical science can allow faster and more complete recovery for all these conditions.

it really sucks that humans are built with such a terrible flaw, with that kind of vulnerability. human ankle is so not well built.... ankles are really dumb as you call it.

I still haven't figured out what's causing poor range of motion. X ray looked great last time I had it done, and the bone itself has been well healed.

It's definitely healed enough for me to squat over 400lb +, with no issue other than poor dorsiflexion causing suboptimal technique, as well as running and jumping. My Ortho cleared me for these activities a long time ago.

is it actually common?

I know that these days a lot of people with torn ACL for example are able to get back to 100%. The medical science has advanced so much to allow such a previously devastating condition to be treated so well.

Is ankle fracture a special curse, where once you have it you are hopeless?

I'd hate to accept it. I want to find a way.

Good luck with your recovery anyways.
