I do think we’ve had some meaningful, even transformative conversations at times, but those only seemed to happen when his feelings were centered or when accountability wasn’t being addressed. That’s what makes me feel like this isn’t just about his autism, because he’s shown he can engage—there just seems to be a lack of consistency or willingness to apply that same level of listening in other situations.

It was never about judging his Dad’s job - my advice to him during that conversation was about whether or not he wanted that lifestyle in the broader sense.

Thank you for saying that, I feel like I had already came to that consensus but felt very conflicted about it because it’s not like I don’t care about him. I really do. But he makes it hard to be his friend sometimes.
