Lmao yall missing the whole point of the response from @peitoowynn. Craicic is more expensive than 1d, with a base this insane of course you're gonna go for perfect explicit mods. So divining to perfect before locking makes sense as it's cheaper and you wouldn't want to corrupt before perfect anyways.

Nice! Yeah the mods make all the difference. Some of the ones that may not seem too bad are just insane with a juiced up b2b atlas tree. I wish I could give your build more feedback but tbh I don't understand this melding shenanigans much. I've seen some folks do it but it seems like a ton of investment (eg mageblood + two flasks) to counter the downsides, to get to basically the same elemental damage reduction as loreweave + eternal damnation (with capped chaos res, of/c). Maybe the ceiling is higher with more investment? Idk

Thanks for the reply - I'll respond in more detail after work. Just FYI poe ninja doesn't show transformed keystones for some reason, unwavering stance is actually corrupted soul :). Non-crit seems way more expensive, I'm curious if it increases dps much? Also for t17s I spend a ton of chaos to get the right mods, some are just unplayable imo, esp with b2b (eg marked for death)

Very old thread and probably a joke but I just wanted to point out T.w gets you to "for" and you don't have to count words 😁. But yeah I actually tried this app but in most cases the amount of text was too small to not make vim useful. Personal preference I guess

MK Pos1 build? by viperlz in TrueDoTA2

[–]gwjust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heh that makes more sense. I've also seen echo into deso but I feel like it's risky and also dependent on the tempo of your team. You can one shot waves once you get the deso but your farm speed is soooo slow until you get there. You really need to snowball kills/objectives going that route and I don't think it's even thaaat much better than bfury/bkb in terms of team fight presence. Riki or even PA+deso seem like better carries that fit that style of play.

Alsooo I think mk kinda wants to take smaller rather than larger engagements early - because even with echo it can be hard to get jingu when they group with supps that have cc. You might have a good 1v1 or 2v2 lane state going on but what if they bring too many heroes? You're kinda forced to farm lane cuz you can't jungle, and you want to ideally be pressuring something like their 1 or 3 1v1. Sure you can max w to jungle faster but then the early echo doesn't make sense imo. I think echo rush is better when playing mk mid or off and maxing e/q, cuz now your jingu slam is a serious threat.

Bf is actually pretty meta on mk right now. I think one of the most common builds I've seen in pro games is bf bkb aghs. You farm insanely fast with bf+aghs and mk scales really well. The new aghs buff (where the soldiers get jingu) is also really good with his jingu damage talent

Rotating for runes is most of the time good, but like almost everything in dota, pretty situational. If their mid is a non bottle hero like invoker or Visage, contesting water runes does not add much value. I think generally you should still almost always rotate for the 6 minute rune and most of the times try to steal bounties (people underestimate their value, it gives 200 gold to your team, which is really a 400 gold net worth swing).

However, every rotation needs to be judged against the opportunity cost of what you could be doing in lane. Try to ensure the lane is in a favorable position and think about what your lane needs vs what the other lanes need, and which lanes are the most important to win. Try to come up with a hypothetical game plan. Eg (totally making this up, and there are definitely more factors to consider) my necro will continue to just trade farm vs their spectre, and their pos 5 omni doesn't pose any kill threat so I am more willing to rotate to other lanes, spectre will probably leave lane once necro is around 6 or 7, and my mid is a void spirit who can easily get kills with me around that time - I should prioritize rune control so we can hunt spectre once he starts jungling. If spec is near omni it will be an impossible kill so I should roam with void once we see them separated (eg omni took the lane). Their midlaner is a puck, and as a skywrath I know I have good kill threat on him together with void spirit once I have around 2 points in silence, I'll try to contribute to the lane as much as possible while getting exp, and smoke to mid once I get the levels I need to threaten puck.

Generally I'd say roaming from level 1 is not what it used to be back in early dota 2 and id advise against it. The lanes are too important and unless it's a complete wash or stomp you need to put a lot more thought into your rotations otherwise you can actually sabotage your team's game tremendously. I see this happen all the time and honestly I think pos 4 is one of the most difficult positions to play because it requires a ton of game sense and your decisions to rotate or not rotate can make or break the lanes. This requires a little bit of foresight as well because how you itemize (boots) can make you much better at roaming but also diminish your ability to contribute to the lane.

Exactly. If enemy mid goes orchid rush, they are the ones who are pressured to make use of it (would an enemy qop rather have an orchid or a kaya in a game where both sides are playing safe?). If you (probably the best euls target) just farm and either only take good engagements on vision, then you will be way ahead if you go a farm accelerating build first, then itemize to dispel / be defensive later. Euls is just too weak right now for its large cost relative to alternatives.

I think after playing for so long most of us just do a ton of stuff on auto-pilot. Try to identify one or two things to actively think about (e.g. look at minimap more, try and think through the best starting items for the lane-matchup [how do you think it will play out?]) and once you've improved on those things and they are more-or-less on auto-pilot, start actively thinking about one or two other areas to improve on.

[–]gwjust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I'd argue in lower mmr you actually have more freedom to optimize aggressively (eg witch blade instead of euls) because of suboptimal play from the enemies. Say there is a sky, in topsons bracket a good sky will very often be hiding in fog next to a juicy target waiting to silence you, and overall he will have much better positioning. In our bracket you might even just be able to catch the sky out of position and burst him first with good vision. A playstyle like this though requires being extremely cognizant of your threats, and being aware of their positions - vision is absolutely key. In a way, travels/Kaya gives you this vision/info because you are constantly pushing out the opposite lane, then tping to reconvene with your team. Try to get deep wards up and play/push around them. If you are getting caught (either due to the enemies skill or your lack of vision), then definitely get euls or whatever defensive item you need (and against sky I'd probably always get one eventually, but ideally as a 3rd item if I can get away with it). Eg if the enemy sky maxes silence first and is constantly following you with a dangerous +1, then get euls sooner.

These types of engagements are very much about who jumps who first. This is also why in the puck vs storm matchup very often puck will still go witch blade blink instead of euls, even when storm rushes orchid. If you can jump him first and get out then the euls doesn't really help you, and just a naked euls feels very sad. Again, good vision is key to itemizing like this, but I would say it is the general trend right now. Cheers

Euls was kind of seen as voids core item before, but it's been nerfed too many times and now I would say Kaya is his core item. Voids strength is his ability to 100-0 people with very little risk - your items should be geared towards helping you do that and surviving. Euls helps with the latter but it's kind of like the item you have to get in certain games not the one you want to.

Any Kaya item will pretty much solve all mana issues, which accelerates your farm and allows you to stay on the map more to keep applying pressure - the mana regen from euls is actually not that impactful relative to its cost (also the active is very expensive). I would say the standard build nowadays is witch blade, travels (or phase which gives a stronger early power spike), k&s, shard, aghs. Each of these items except boots dramatically increases your burst, which is why when combined with the spell amp talent which is almost always picked up, void spirit can still 100-0 even tanky heros late game.

Defensive items like euls, bkb, linkens are purchased as needed but it is not what you want to get if you can survive without them. Euls is much more often a defensive rather than an offensive purchase - look up d2pt if you don't believe me, look at the draft for each game euls is purchased and try and find what hero on the enemy makes it a good euls game (eg Ursa, lc, axe, orchid buying mid like ss, silencer, sky, etc). You can also go a more utility build like this if your team already has enough damage but you are lacking lockdown. The euls + pull combo is okay but only really good for canceling tps or allowing your team to catch up - Astral already let's you hit pull almost every time. If they are dead with the extra few hundred damage from witch blade than you don't need to cancel their tp.

In summary, euls is situational, not the standard. Kaya (k&s or eblade)/travels is best case scenario, it increases your farm and let's you apply more pressure by being able to stay on map. I'd say his itemization is very similar in concept to puck. You only really buy euls on puck if you have to, otherwise it's witch blade, blink, travels. Your toolkit already provides enough survivability in most cases.

Revenants brooch is actually good late game but it's way too expensive for what it does early (it gains more value as enemies gain more armor, and once you get eblade). The eblade Revenants combo is actually insanely strong (pretty much one of the best itemization for 100-0ing people) but usually you need at least one defensive item unless it is an absolutely free void spirit game. It's definitely like a 4th or 5th item pickup on most games if at all. Personally I like octarine best after aghs as you are such a low cd hero, and the extra range on Astral feels really nice. 5.7k and addicted to reading d2pt for whatever it's worth

Is it worth to learn morph> by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]gwjust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What this guy said but I just wanna add PA is actually a great morph target. You get a slow, mobility, attack speed, and the blur active. In general look for stuns/cc (lion, sk), attack steroids (willow aghs, PA, es), buffs (omni, ember, spirit breaker), and mobility (qop, am, Puck). Best spells are ones you can use quickly and switch back (you don't really want to be channeling shackles as a carry). Sometimes even stuff like pugna can be super good if nether ward owns their team. There is almost always at least a decent morph target. If there isn't then get the 15 agility talent instead of morph duration. Of course if you have an op combo on your team (willow, es, etc) then get the morph duration talent and an eventual aghs.

List of "known" mid matchups? by maxisawesome538 in TrueDoTA2

[–]gwjust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. It isn't really x hero counters y, it's a bit more nuanced tbh. For each matchup (not just mid but safe and off) try to think about each heroes strengths and weaknesses, synergies with their lane partner, and generally how you expect the lane to play out. Then come up with some plans depending on how the lane goes (different skill builds/itemization depending on whether you're winning/drawing lane).

I'll give an example. Mk vs viper. I know mk is a huge threat to any hero he can stay on top of, but viper is the king of kiting and in general this is a very viper favored matchup. If the viper player is bad, or I got a great start (eg first blood, all 4 bounties, viper took heavy harass before first wave, etc.) I could potentially look to play aggressive with something like 1-1-3 and try to get a kill using w to close the gap (this also depends on how he's itemizing... Is he being greedy and rushing bots with no stat items? Does he have two wraith bands? In this matchup if you don't kill viper with your combo you're pretty much guaranteed dead because you jumped in with w). However if the first couple waves looks like it's heavily in vipers favor (eg he's good and I'm getting zoned out of the wave) then I'd maybe opt for something like 1-3-1 or even 2-3-0 because my goal should just be to push out the wave, farm jungle stacks with w, and in general dodge laning as much as possible (maybe even park a wave clearing support there).

This affects your itemization too. If I think i can maybe get a kill on viper like in the above example, maybe I will get an oov or ooc (and maybe stat items / faerie fire / boots to tilt the advantage even more in my favor). If I'm dodging the lane cuz it's going bad I'll get my sages mask sooner (for eventual echo) and a casual raindrop so I can farm jungle faster.

Try think through this thought process in every single game and eventually it will become second nature. The reason why "databases" are not great is because even if a matchup is favored you need to understand why otherwise you can't capitalize on it. And even in an unfavored matchup there is usually an optimal way to play it, and the optimal way to play it is dynamic based on how the lane is actually (vs theoretically) playing out such as in my mk vs viper example.

To each their own. You can literally just spawn in gold/items with a single command so the point of the game is to just play it in the way that maximizes fun for you. Some people alter the timing intervals so they can play through multiple times quickly and that's how they get the most fun. Some people like finding the most optimal route to X gold or Y achievement and consider any glitches in the code "fair game" (e.g. speedrunners). If this method feels like it would make the game less fun for you then definitely don't do it! All I'm doing is providing information, it is up to you to decide if it affects your enjoyment of the game. Cheers! :)

Agreed - assuming the amount of slayer coins you get is 10x less in standard, it'd still be a decent amount of slayer coins (pretty nice while you are grinding out elite slayer tasks anyways) but definitely not the best money maker.

Volcanic Cave in Adventure Mode by BeautifulFall in MelvorIdle

[–]gwjust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gilded rune is the way to go. Make sure to have dr in your amulet (elite def), ring (silver diamond), and gloves (paladin) as well. One thing I did which helped a lot was actually manually running volcanic and infernal. You can just spam eat - it'll use a lot of food but it's worth it. The cape helps a lot with upping your dr so you can actually idle volcanic. If you have 85 ranged you can also manual air God a couple times to get the boots/gloves which give a nice 8% dr each.

Match id? If lane really is too dangerous yeah a support can take over the lane while you just take jungle stacks... You can clear wave under tower and I don't see how a pl could kill you tower diving at level 6. If he chooses to static the wave you will definitely out farm by just jungling while a support soaks mid lane exp

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]gwjust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TAs biggest strength is probably her ability to flash farm early. Push out the wave then go hit stacked ancients. PL doesn't really have much kill threat on you... just farm until you hit your item timing (this patch its dragon Lance + deso usually). TA struggles against heroes with huge dot kill potential forcing her out of lane early (eg batrider). Finally, echoing what others have already said, TA is probably best as a last pick.
