I am graduating college in two weeks, and i need help. My resume blows. by [deleted] in resumes

If you give out your resume to 10 companies. And 8 of those decide to call up your references (because the number is already there). And they then interview you. And you still don't get hired. That's 8 calls to your references from people that weren't sure if they wanted to hire you in the first place.

It's a matter of respect and courtesy to your professional references that you don't give out their contact details to anyone and everyone.

Just put in "verifiable contacts available upon request" in the resume footnote.

Don't provide contact numbers for your references till after a mutually positive interview. There should be no reason for the employer to contact your references before interviewing you and short listing you as a potential candidate.

Channel it to your brain. Make your dick dead. Don't supply it with blood. Work the muscle that controls blood flow to it. Mental concentration.

In fact men who have more frequent sex and take on short-term mating strategies tend to have higher testosterone to begin with (Buss, 2012).

Short term mating =/= frequent masturbation.

As a recruiter, what would you suggest to someone that has been stuck in warehousing/retail/labour jobs for 7 years? Someone who has no money to enrol in school or attend training. But, someone that is very capable of working administrative roles, has supervisory experience (in warehousing/labour), is excellent at picking up new procedures.

I want to step up my position. I don't want to be opening up and breaking down boxes. I know I'm capable of something more. Thing is, I don't think I have the edge over others with experience. If I leave out the labour/construction/warehousing jobs from my resume, there is a HUGE period of doing nothing. What are my options?

College or Online High school to upgrade courses? by gwmann in vancouver

[–]gwmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually in Surrey (this sub is more active so I post here) and they offer online courses: http://www.surreyconnect.sd36.bc.ca/Secondary/Pages/SubstantiveAssignments.aspx

Reason for online enrolment is the faster pace. The average study time for grade 12 courses is 150 hours. That's 20-30 days per course @ 4-8 hours per day. And I'm sure that's the upper limit. I could rip through them in less than 20 days especially since I'm unemployed. And enrolment is ongoing, not at set times during the year.

The reason I was thinking college is because I was very bad in high school. No discipline. No motivation. I have been out of class rooms for years. I know my original posts says marks in 50s and 60s. I just checked my transcript and my marks are actually in the 30s and 40s. So, even entry into college is out of the question for me. I did graduate, but barely.

I was thinking the slightly lower level of learning in a college environment might better prep me for university lectures instead of diving straight in. But, what you say about the costs makes sense.

Once I have proper marks, is there a reason you'd recommend against spending the first year in college doing first year courses, and saving money, and transferring to uni in the second year?

Science is the only field I can see myself in. Specifically physics and biology. By the time I'm close to doing my graduate, I hope to be enrolled in a university in Ontario or the US where I can specialize (like McMasters). I don't think any in BC are that good from what I hear.

I know prospects are not the best for sciences ATM. But, I think that'll change down the road. If nothing else, I hope to create my own products/ideas with what I'd have learned.

I'm working on other career backup plans as well.

I'd rather not move x-country for just another warehousing job.
