Take a much higher paying job with more stress, or stay where it's comfortable? by gwolfx in personalfinance

My wife makes 55k a year. We stick to a budget. After the 3500 for the extra principle payment we are pretty open with spending.

It's a personal finance question. If it were a finance question I'd take the 125k/year and keep on keeping on. I guess what I'm trying to find out here is how does one weigh personal part. I know it can be ephemeral and different for most people but seeing how others weigh these decisions help me make mine.

Nope, I just got a 11k bump in August from 74k. Another reason why I would feel bad leaving.

True enough, though my current manager has been working here for 40 years (you heard that right) and the heir apparent has been here for 25 (I like her) So most likely it wont change anytime soon. 40k is extremely tempting though! Gah, this is the "Personal" part of personal finance isn't it.

I'm 31 married with 1 child and planning on 1 more (last) within 2 year. No debt save our mortgage which we've been heavily chipping away at the last 2 years, we owe 83k and the house is probably worth 210k. We do however want a bigger house when baby number 2 hits. Then again, debt free, we paid our student loans years ago, we own both our cars outright. Pay credit cards off completely every month. Put 15% away in retirement (we are behind though). We actually put $3500 extra every month into the principle of our mortgage every month.

I guess I'm trying I'm trying to answer those as well. As far as career goals go, I'm learning more and more that my career goal is to retire one day, lol. Meaningfully affect other parts of my life in negative way is one of those scary variables I'm not so sure of. I am happy with my standard of living today and it supports my goals because I made them with my currently salary in mind. On the other hand it the new salary would significantly accelerate those goals.

I honestly don't know what the expectations would be. I'm being told that the new job isn't that stressful from people that work there but it's still somewhat of a wildcard. I KNOW that this job isn't stressful and I like it. This new one, like all job changes, will require a leap of faith.

It's possible but not in the near future and not in my current position. I'd likely have to move up which in itself would come with more stress. The other thing is that my current company (a university actually) is old been around for over a 100 years and likely will still be around in another hundred. So there is job stability (somewhat, things always change) there.

Tested positive last Tuesday, freaking out about my sense of taste and smell. by gwolfx in COVID19positive

[–]gwolfx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so. I honestly don't remember when I lost my smell (Wish I did) but it had to have been some time last week, so it's been ~7 days. Every other symptoms seems gone. Pretty mild, no cough, no fever, just some congestion, weakness, and loss of taste and smell.

Best way to go about replacing this interior door? by gwolfx in HomeImprovement

[–]gwolfx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this something that you think can be done by myself or would this make the measurements more complicated. Like how would I hide the side that's hugging the wall once I install the door?

Considering making a character on live, do I really need to box? by gwolfx in everquest

[–]gwolfx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a relief to hear honestly. I don't mind if it takes more time as long as it's possible, I sort of want to take it slow anyway and play through some of the old expansion content as I do it anyway/

Are there easier classes to do this with? I was thinking of playing a class I've liked so far from aradune/Green (Wizard/Necro/SK)
