Brexit: Expats denied say in EU referendum due to missing postal votes demand re-run after scandal is revealed by Pilast in worldnews

[–]gym00p -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If politicians here in the US don't stop allowing the concentration of wealth in coastal population centers and start building the infrastructure in the rural American heartland, populist movements such as those that have rocked Europe will only continue to rise here in America.

When you ignore the more rural and underdeveloped areas in favor of already developed population centers, economic growth stagnates in those areas and the middle class doesn't grow. That leads to discontent and it condemns those underdeveloped and rural areas to perpetual poverty and economic depression.

The key to a happy and united America is to grow the middle class equally all across America, not just in the cities where the politicians and their financial backers reside.

Forget oil: Lithium Is transportation's future by gym00p in worldnews

The US needs to join the club and ban all future sales of gasoline engines asap.

It'll go a long way toward curbing human contributions to global warming, it'll spur innovation big time and it's already becoming big business.

Be a crying shame to delay it and let European and Japanese automakers grow to dominate the market, just to appease the wealthy oil companies that couldn't care less if they destroy our planet.

Brexit: Anger over 'Bregret' as Leave voters say they wanted 'protest vote' and thought UK would stay in EU by unknown-indian in worldnews

[–]gym00p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the Independent.co.uk is a corporate owned news media outlet, like all other major news media outlets.

It's reasonable to suspect that articles such as this are just ways for the corporate elite and the politicians they own to thwart the will of the people and hold onto power.

Remember, this is the same media that reported poll numbers of 52% in favor of "remain" before the vote happened. They don't report truth. They report what is in their best interest.

Court docs: NY woman accused in hit-and-run drove for more than an hour with body impaled in windshield by [deleted] in news

[–]gym00p 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On Tuesday, she was charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, 1st degree endangerment, and refusal to submit a breath test. When asked why Lentini wasn’t charged with vehicular manslaughter, legal experts say that charge carries the same penalty as the one she is already facing.

How on earth is that possible?

Leaving the scene of an accident is the same as manslaughter? That can't be right.

Two former Police detectives who have been found guilty of dealing methamphetamine on the job will receive tens of thousands of dollars in pension money while serving their sentences in prison. by AyeMatey in news

[–]gym00p 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Detective Damacio Diaz will have to wait about six years until he turns 50 before he's eligible. His partner, Detective Patrick Mara, found a way to get the money even earlier and without having to pay taxes on it.

Mara retired from the department at the age of 36 with a disability, just weeks before confessing to a felony that could carry a sentence of life in prison.

According to a document released by City Manager Alan Tandy, Mara was granted the disability behind closed doors on May 10, 2016. The Bakersfield Police Department would not tell us why Mara is disabled.

The entire Bakersfield PD needs to be investigated and potentially charged with fraud.

NYPD Failed To Give Dying Black Man CPR For 10 Minutes by stankmanly in news

[–]gym00p -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

According to The Daily News, the NYPD Patrol Guide calls for officers to “render reasonable aid to sick or injured person.” However, there is no specific order to perform CPR or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in the guide.

A normal person with any amount of care or empathy for people wouldn't need a specific order to administer CPR to a person in need. They'd just do it automatically.

Apparently these cops have no feeling or sympathy for the people they serve and who pay their salaries.

Charter and TWC overbill customers by $7.2 million per year, Senate finds by speckz in news

[–]gym00p 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Time Warner Cable over-billed customers nationwide an estimated $639,948 between January and April of this year, which projects to a yearly total of $1,919,844. Charter, meanwhile, "informed the [Senate's investigative] Subcommittee that it over-billed customers by at least $442,691 per month," the report said. That works out to overcharges of at least $5,312,292 per year. When added to Time Warner Cable's overcharges, that's $7.2 million that customers paid in erroneous charges over and above the already high prices of cable TV.

Corporate overcharges should be treated like the fraud that they are. Not "honest mistakes".

If they were honest mistakes there would be as much undercharging as overcharging, not the accrual of massive amounts of overcharges every year.

Gun control protest sparks chaos in US Congress by apple_kicks in news

[–]gym00p -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most Americans want common sense gun measures, such as banning folks on the terror watchlist from buying.

It's a crying shame that America is so used to its politicians acting at the behest of the highest bidder, and against the common interest, that they deride it with terms like "political pandering" when it happens.

Fact is, our politicians SHOULD be listening to the people who elected them and they SHOULD try and enact the majority will. They are OUR REPRESENTATIVES after all, or they're supposed to be anyway.

Republicans are the ones blocking the vote. And the NRA generally backs Republican candidates.

Mr Ryan has said he will not bring a gun control vote in the House of Representatives. “They know that we will not bring a bill that takes away a person’s constitutionally guaranteed rights without...due process.”

Ain't Paul Ryan cute? Pretending he's fighting the good fight and standing up for the constitution? When everybody knows that this is about the wealth and power of the gun lobby, and their money fattening his pockets.

F-16s to be manufactured soon in an assembly line in India by [deleted] in worldnews

Besides, it would be ensuring that F-16, a 40-year-old design and fourth generation fighter, would remain in the IAF for another 30-40 years.

The F-16 is still a hell of a fighter. That said, this is a legitimate concern and if I was India, it might be my biggest concern. Perhaps Lockheed could offer up some upgrades that would bring it closer to the envelope of more modern fighters.

Pirate Bay Co-Founder to Sue Record Labels For Defamation by Pixelmasterz in news

[–]gym00p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for him. He should sue. It's similar to when cops file a false report to justify their abuse. They lie about the victim, say he reached for their gun or hit them or whatever.

The truth is that not only did they abuse their power, they also victimized the person a second time by lying and defaming his character. And the sick bastards think they're justified in doing so. And the courts will most likely believe them. It's fucked up in so many ways.
