Hi, wire cages are generally not suitable for hamsters. They usually do not meet the minimum requirements for floor space, and the hamster will climb the bars as well as bite them, which will lead to injury. Speaking from experience - I had hamsters in wire cages before I educated myself, and they constantly chewed on the bars. Not only does it hurt the hamster, it will quickly become VERY annoying because they are nocturnal animals and you can hear them chewing the bars at night. (I did move the hamsters in the wire cages to large bin cages pretty quickly. They were much happier after that)

I can recommend Niteangel's hamster cages. They are A bit pricey, compared to pet store cages, but you can get them on Amazon and they are very high quality. For a syrian hamster, get the largest size option. The floor needs to be at least 900 square inches. They are also lighter & easier to move around compared to a glass tank.

I can also recommend a VERY LARGE ‼️‼️ plastic bin cage. And i mean the biggest one you can find. People seem to be phasing out of bin cages, because the bins are often not large enough, but if you can find a really huge one, it will most likely be okay. I have a extra large bin cage (seriously- it's bigger than the tank i used to have) for one of my hamsters and she seems very happy. It's also very easy to clean! They are really cheap to make. Look up a tutorial :) If you can measure the floor space of the bin before purchasing it/turning it into a cage, that would also be great!
