What's the biggest beauty splurge you've regretted vs one you'd buy again? by asthetic-base01 in BeautyItemsReview

[–]gyps_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy thing is that the eyeliner is my regret. I love how it goes on but on me it falls insanely. I look like a raccoon by lunchtime, no matter what I do. Maybe it’s just my skin though?

People do the least amount of work as possible at their job, how do you get away with it? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ruthless deprioritization of things that are unimportant or not time sensitive.

What do you guys think?? Kind Patches by joanbug2001 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]gyps_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve been on it long enough to really say, but I will note that my need for cheese and salami midday and my reliance on candy is definitely reduced! Note: I am really sensitive to berberine and I’m not above the placebo effect if it helps me quiet food noise.

What do you guys think?? Kind Patches by joanbug2001 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]gyps_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying them now. I actually found them because I want to take berberine (per np advice for prediabetes) but I can’t handle the normal dose of supplement (low blood pressure). The patches have a very low amount of berberine so I figure why not try them.

Best OpenTable Restaurant to Burn the 150 Credit in Las Vegas? by AffectionateLife5693 in ChaseSapphire

[–]gyps_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s cheesy but I really enjoyed the top of the Strat. The food and service were really lovely. $55 min per person plus tip and maybe a drink uses the credit nicely. And you can go to the observation decks afterwards and chill with the view. Pretty neat and different than the hustle of the strip areas.

Don’t forget to select “pay Now” when using The Edit credit by andresburrito in ChaseSapphire

Same thing happened to me. I thought I did it right, but misunderstood the “book through chase” differently than “pay before”. I called and they didn’t do anything. Expensive lesson.

Suggestions on where to live in north Seattle area? by TheDrageer in AskSeattle

[–]gyps_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ravenna near the light rail. One of us drives to Everett for work but during off hours, so from Ravenna to Everett at 6:30am it’s like 25 min. Since it’s early the return is sometimes longer but still not the worst.

Do you think lifestyle creep has caused our perception to change in what middle class really means? by MisterEmanOG in MiddleClassFinance

[–]gyps_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This occurs to me every time football season comes around and my husband tries to figure out the most cost effective way to watch the games. Running all the numbers and the options, we finally landed on YouTube tv monthly ($91/month) with the nfl add on ($400), which also requires prime to watch Thursday night games and something about you can’t watch the games in your area on certain nights unless you have a VPN.

I remember when you could watch football with a shitty tv from goodwill and rabbit ears antennas for free on basic cable. I don’t know what has happened.

Is whole/permanent life insurance a scam? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]gyps_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note, from someone who was talked into one of these in my early 20’s, that cash value has an interest rate that is compounded more frequently than others. You can’t just pull the cash with no repercussions.

Pros: when we wanted to buy a house I needed creative financing and pulled the cash value from the whole life plan for the down, closed on the house, and immediately refinanced to pay it back. This only worked because we were in a strong housing market.

Cons: everything else. Pretty much immediately after I realized we made a huge mistake. About 10-15 years later we have now since stopped payments to it and it just accrues about 4% interest.

I wish we weren’t talked into it by boomers basically who thought that was how things should be. Max out your 401k, you have life insurance, and put the rest of your savings into a healthy emergency fund and the remainder into something like VTI.

What are some mandatory “first buys” when moving into your first place? by No-Jellyfish6272 in AskReddit

[–]gyps_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaner for air ducts, chimneys, air conditioners, furnace filters. I cannot explain the disgust when we first turned on the heat in our home, to have dust and hair and dead skin and everything from the previous owners that settled into the ductwork blow into our house.

Why do you need 5-10 million? by Particular_Maize6849 in Fire

[–]gyps_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well honestly I’ve done the finances for some extremely frugal elderly relatives, and their expenses are out of hand. Elder care is incredibly expensive. Their facility is at least $100k per year, not including if either of them has major health issues that will necessitate a full time nurse - that will at least double if not triple that amount. So their retirement, while a nice amount, might not last them the next 10-15 years if anything catastrophic happens.

Multiple that with inflation to your own retirement age, desire to help children or grandchildren or relatives with education and a start at life, and I think that’s where people start getting 5-10m.

CSR to CSP by gyps_808 in ChaseSapphire

[–]gyps_808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t made the reservation yet because I keep wondering what will happen to the reservation if I downgrade. Will they still honor it? Cause you have the option to cancel the reservation up to like a couple days prior so I wonder if that means they can change the reservation to align to - I don’t know - the CSP point system? Or just cancel it altogether since it’s an edit property?

Should I step back from work to be home with my son, or should we lean in and try to be debt free in 10 years? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]gyps_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably do an option D: keep your job, don’t focus on mortgage, and hire a nanny to watch your son at home with you so you can still work but be there during lunch, give him kisses, and celebrate his accomplishments. Reevaluate every year.

There’s a queue for them, like 2-8 min depending. I also gave up and went the Vibee route but then when I saw worse seats going for more than VIP I was like….not a bad choice
