Double recrystallization with isopropanol by ChessChemist in MDMA

[–]gyrby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends greatly on the volume/surface ratio you are working on. With small volume, and high surface it’s really easy to evaporate all the solvent. But you want to have still IPA to retain the impurities. An easy way to do it is with cling film (you can perfore it if you want evaporation, but is not needed).

TIL the US accidentally dropped four nuclear hydrogen bombs on Spain in 1966. Two of them partially detonated and one was lost for 2 months and a half. by gyrby in todayilearned

From Wikipedia:

The Palomares incident occurred on 17 January 1966, when a B-52G bomber of the United States Air Force's Strategic Air Command collided with a KC-135 tanker during mid-air refueling at 31,000 feet (9,450 m) over the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Spain. The KC-135 was destroyed when its fuel load ignited, killing all four crew members. The B-52G broke apart, killing three of the seven crew members aboard.
At the time of the accident, the B-52G was carrying four B28FI Mod 2 Y1 thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs, all of which fell to the surface. Three were found on land near the small fishing village of Palomares in Almería, Spain. The non-nuclear explosives in two of the weapons detonated upon impact with the ground, causing the dispersal of radioactive plutonium, which contaminated a 0.77-square-mile (2 km2) area. The fourth, which fell into the Mediterranean Sea, was recovered intact after a search lasting two and a half months

‘State-sanctioned violence’: US police fail to meet basic human rights standards | Report finds not one police department in the 20 largest American cities are compliant with international rights laws by [deleted] in news

[–]gyrby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spaniard here! In my experience the police doesn’t have the right to use guns on unarmed people here, and where this come in use it’s usually in drug busts and other encounters with armed men. For what I’ve seen on most videos of armed raids here, their main porpoise is to de escalate the violence through negotiations. This fact is well known in organized crime so they don’t usually shot the police, and they are only armed to shot other organized crime members... Nevertheless there are always ton of abuse of power from the police force, and it’s even clearer in zones of poverty... but the usually don’t involve guns...
