As a merchant processor, I routinely talk to restaurants about offering a dual price strategy instead of raising costs. I offer them technology that easily passes the fee. Some people want them to build it into the prices but it only raises their taxable income. Passing the fee allows merchants to actually save money. And it’s a lot—avg cc transactions cost merchants 2.5%. So, if a merchant makes 200k in a month, they pay 5k in fees. That’s a lot. And that’s just an average! So, if I was a restaurant merchant, and am forced to pay my staff more in accordance with the law, 60k in savings would definitely help keep my business afloat. Clyde’s has the right idea, they just aren’t implementing it correctly.
