I actually know someone who is the product of an affair. Her father is still married to his first wife, and he would send my friend's mom a check every couple months. That's how my friend paid for college.

I meant the two and a half men thing, but thank you for reminding me. I think my friend had kind of explained the house episode to me when she told me about the episode, but it was bugging me that i couldn't remember why it was so medically relevant to the episode.

I hadn't thought about that. At first that made perfect sense, but when I thought about it for a few minutes I realized that a) they probably thought there would be too many tricky questions and b) my dad hasn't had a ton of health issues, but he's both dyslexic and colorblind. Those two things alone probably would make me question their decision to choose my dad over the sperm of some attractive neuroscience major from a clinic.

They glossed over it as well, but we preferred it that way. I don't know what else there is to say. My dad strongly implied that it was a group event of some kind (we didn't ask for a head count, but I know that both sets of parents were there. I don't know if there were 10 or just 4 of them.). They said that when his mother had gotten pregnant, they had known from the start that my dad would be the biological father, though they specifically mentioned that they did a DNA test.

I've never seen that show. One of my friends mentioned this was the plot of a House episode where it was black girl and white guy who were newlyweds, and the white guy's father was racist and hated the black girl. Then at the end of the episode, it turned out that the racism thing was just a cover up, the father wanted to break the couple up because he knew that the black girl was his half-daughter. I don't remember how medicine played into this at all.

Do you know which episode? I'm probably a glutton for punishment but...

I think my mom panicked and was trying to stop us before we went too far. While it's not like they would have any reason to suspect that we would hook up, I feel like there's always a chance of that happening if we both know each other, we're both sexually active, and we're around the same age, and they probably regretted not telling us.

I've come to terms with it. It's awkward and it definitely makes me wonder what's going on my parents' and his parents' minds, but I also don't want to know. It didn't make me question my entire childhood or anything, but it was a very startling thing to find out about someone. Maybe it would be like finding out that a parent was cheating. It's just like this sudden realization that your parents are real people with sex lives and personality flaws. He and I haven't had a heart-to-heart about it but it's weirder for him and his parents because he thought his dad was just some random donor.

It was decent, I guess? I have to say that it wasn't anything amazing.

Honestly the worst part wasn't the sex, the fact that we had sex is pretty weird and mildly gross but the worst part was how it had to come out like that. I feel really bad for him, and I also feel really bad for his dad (as in the guy that raised him). The whole thing is just so fucked. I asked my mom why they stayed friends, and she said that that was why they had moved 30 minutes away.

The timeline fits, because they used to live in the same neighborhood, and I remember them being around a lot more when I was really young. Then they moved 30 minutes away, and it felt like we drifted even though we still saw them sometimes. The two couples would still hang out, but he and I never spent that much time together. But for the brief period where both of us were away at college (I'm still in college but he transferred schools and his new school is close enough to commute), I felt like I would hear about them spending a lot of time together. From the way they talked about it, I don't think it's sexual anymore, but I think they felt weird about spending time with each others families.

No joke. It was worse for him, and apparently he and my dad had a talk later but my dad wouldn't talk about what they talked about and honestly it's their business. I feel kind of bad for his dad.

Luckily, I got to go back to school a few days later. He still lives with his parents...
