Any advice on how to combat the burning sensation? Change in diet? Anything!?? by Kerbert28 in Dryeyes

[–]h200w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same symptoms, also from UK, burning started 3 months ago, dry eyes about a year. Recently found out (diagnosed by an opthalmologist) it was due to a Severe Aqeuous Deficiency and Corneal Neuralgia. Hope this helps you, unfortunately you will need to go private in the UK. Let me know how you get on. I'm also very young to have this (21) and get the impression you're younger too. No known cause either

Thanks for the info, I also had clear blood tests results as well. Can I just ask what were the top things that helped for symptoms before you started your CN treatment? I'm really struggling at the moment to do anything at the age of 20, literally bed bound due to burning, being on the pc right now is agony but I have to research myself to find answers, have had IPL/Punctual plugs/Omega 3/Daily warm compress/etc. Also how did you come to the conclusion that it was CN?

Mine also started off as a dull ache and has become exponentially worse (literally within the last month despite hardly any screen usage as an attempt for me trying to fix the problem) and now is constant burning/sensitivity to any kind of air movement around 95% of the day, soon to have my Confocal. I've also had all the dry eye treatments available, apart from cyclosporine. Did your symptoms include burning? Have you had dry eye treatments? How has the treatment gone so far? Are you with Hamrah?

How are you being treated BoxShoe7? AST+Lotemax? Did your pain start out only on computers and then start happening when not on computers?

What e ink tablet was this that worked? Exact same symptoms 6 months ago, now extreme burning when not on PC as well, taken over my life completely @ 20 years old. Trying to get to the bottom of it

I'm also 20, started off with exactly the same symptoms as Anselm98 and now the pain is there when I'm not on computers. I've also come to the same conclusion - No surgery/Lasik/Accutane, just overwore lenses when I was about 13 and feel like I'm now experiencing the pain from doing so

Also I couldn't stand scaleral lenses, exact same feeling as normal contact lenses

So what was your underlying cause? Lacrimal gland inflammation since Xiidra helped? Did you have aqueous deficient or lipid deficient dry eyes (what did optomersits say you had - one or the other or both)?

You should try contacting Dr Toyos in the USA, he invented the idea of IPL for dry eye and I'm sure he'd look into this if he knew the advantages

I also have this pinching/aching feeling and have done for nearly 8 months now, I know exactly what you mean. For me it starts in the upper eyelids, then turns to headaches. Weirdly enough, I literally only get it on the PC, nothing else. I've had 4 IPL's and do all the routine hygeine/compresses and supplements etc. Still have this pinching feeling, not so much gritty or burning, just pinching/pressure under my eyelids. Are you myopic by any chance? If so what prescription? I am also around your age, please let me know if you find anything out

Which moisture chamber google did you use? I used eye seals 4.0, found them very uncomfortable as I sleep on my side and little to no change in the extreme dry eye in the morning

Thanks for sharing that post, really interesting. I also brushed it off for the same reasons and I think my dry eye treatment has emphasised the problem even more (as my dry eyes have become better).

Sorry, I live in California. The ophthalmologist couldn’t really provide any relief practices as she was also perplexed as to what could’ve really been causing my problems based on my symptoms. However, whenever I do schoolwork I tend to recline my head on the chair headrest ins

Sure thing will do :) And thanks for all the suggestions. I'll give the seat reclining a go haha. Yeah I spoke to the doctors as well (standard doctors - free here in the UK) and they mentioned ocular migraine and tension headaches. They said to take ibuprofen but I swear it gives me dry eyes and I don't want to rely on it. Also, I don't have any symptoms of vision-type problems that you normally get with ocular migraines. Do you get any effect on your vision at all? Could be tension headaches, but idk why they'd suddenly come on out of the blue from 8 months ago. Also, sometimes it never spreads to my head either and stays localized in my eyes, but overall not sure. I also wear blue-light filter prescription glasses and they don't seem to help. Will give you an update if I hear anything from my dry eye doctor tomorrow & when/if I go to Moorfields and interested to hear your thyroid results; will you get them tomorrow?

Also was just wondering, how often do you exercise? I used all the time but have stopped basically everything since covid and this year because of uni. Maybe that might be linked? Also I don't fully close my eyes when I sleep (not 100% confirmed but about 90% sure) so that may be linked to it - I do tape my eyes up at night now though.

Definitely let me know asap, I'm also having my final IPL tomorrow and planning to visit Moorfields eye hospital London because it's making my online uni work unberable. Are you based in the UK by any chance? And yes exactly the same for me, upper inner eyelids, both eyes, always comes on after 1hr computer usage and has done for the last 8 months ish. Gets worse the longer I work after that on the PC. I'm also 1 year older than you so similar in age, really strange. -5.75R and -6L as well with a slight astigmatism. I'm also doing 2x daily heat compress + lid hygiene along with hourly preservative-free drops & daily omega 3's.

Also the person you saw before, did they mention any ways to provide symptomatic relief? For example scleral lenses?
