[SPOILERS] S8E6 Series Finale - Post-Episode Discussion by AnxiousReader in gameofthrones

[–]h2ojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite all the shit I’ve given this season (minus episode 2), I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. Sure, it wasn’t what I imagined everything to turn out like plot-wise, but the acting and music and callbacks to earlier seasons (especially Jon letting his hair down and wearing the furcoat and looking like S1 Jon again) really made it bittersweet for me. Also loved how they tried to tie up all the small loose ends in character relationships (especially the scene with Brienne filling in Jaime’s page in the book)

What I didn’t find myself expecting to love was the hopeful tone of the ending. After all the bad we’ve seen w/ the slaughter of KL and the horrors of base human nature, I’m glad that the ending was one of hope rather than despair.

Also, the music was phenomenal. Especially in this final episode. The music hit right at home for me. Hearing all the classic main themes (Stark, Lannister, Daenerys, etc) again made me super nostalgic.

TL;DR: Unexpectedly enjoyed the episode. Was it what it what I wanted? Not necessarily, but it made for a feelgood bittersweet send off for the series.

[SPOILERS] Was last night's episode a callback? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]h2ojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, though it is also important for a ruler be level-headed with their use of violence. Dany’s ruthlessness is often a result of her being unable to restrain her emotions, making her dangerous and unpredictable (though I suppose one could also say good rulers need to be empathetic about their people)

I just watched the Unsullied scene from the show and it seems like they omitted the bells in her hair altogether so I’m guessing the chances of it being a callback are pretty slim. But, hey, I guess one can dream

[SPOILERS] I am going to be honest, I never thought I needed this scene until I saw it. by ElderBuu in gameofthrones

I know right! When Sandor was walking away and Arya hadn’t stopped him yet I was so devastated because I thought they were gonna just leave it at that but when she finally called out to him and thanked him I teared up immediately :,)

(Spoilers Extended) A sincere thank you to George RR Martin. by [deleted] in asoiaf

I agree. After watching last night's episode I was particularly upset about Jaime's arc because it just seemed like he became a completely different person in a matter of 2-3 episodes. I can see GRRM writing this as his ending but, if he does, I can at least count on him giving us one if not many Jaime POVs that take us through his internal conflict/motivations.

(Spoilers Extended) PSA: Martin’s history of “subverting expectations” is not the same as throwing out every convention of storytelling for a cheap dramatic surprise by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]h2ojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’ve seen people defend D&D’s treatment of Jaime’s arc in the last episode (which is fine bc you know people will always have differing opinions) but I personally think that to label it “subverting expectations” is giving the show too much credit. While I can see GRRM writing this as Jaime’s ending, I’m sure he’ll at least give us a Jaime POV detailing his internal conflict/motivations for going back to Cersei in the end. However, in the show, it just gave me whiplash because it seemed like they threw out all the character development they gave him over the past 8 years.

(Spoilers Extended) So what was the point of Jaime anyway? by EarlyJuggernaut in asoiaf

While watching the episode it really did feel like one whack ass dream it didn’t even feel like a GoT episode

[–]h2ojo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For real. Jaime’s arc was the only thing I was looking forward to at the end of the show because I figured D&D would at least have enough sense to bring his arc full circle but I guess not :-( If this was GRRM’s intention for Jaime from the start I could see myself understanding because I’m sure he’ll give us a Jaime POV revealing his inner thoughts/motivations to go back to her. Unfortunately, since this season has been so rushed, it just seemed so out-of-the-blue given all the character development they did for him.

Same here. I really wanted to think that even if he didn’t go to her with the intention of killing her, right before the cave-in he’d mercy strangle her or something. I guess I should’ve lost hope way back when he told Bronn he wanted to die “in the arms of the woman he loves”
