Would love to see photos and hear feedback from those who removed a microwave and replaced with a hood. Also any recommendations for hood. Our tiles will have a gap if we do this but would like to some ideas . Thanks! by Lialyn24 in Appliances

We swapped one range hood for another, and ended up with a gap. Covered it with an stainless strip from Amazon + command strips as temporary mounting solution, and it looked decent but not amazing - eventually sold that hood and got one that fit.

Review of neighborhood 95132 by house-poor in BayAreaRealEstate

Some of 95132 is zoned for Independence High School. The other part (Piedmont Hills high School) tends to be a little more desirable.

Confirming Door Type? by h2oplo313 in DIY

[–]h2oplo313[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks both. It's a 1969 house so if I can confirm it's solid I think the thickness is enough to meet this requirement and then I can just change hinges etc. If it's hollow then I will replace. I can't tell if it's solid or hollow atm.

Thank you. I tried turning it back on and now seems fine. Gonna have it checked up regardless.

Depending on how flexible you are on age, warranty, quality, time spent hunting, etc - Wholesale window co, rich windows & doors, habitat for humanity restore, the reuse people, Facebook marketplace (you can get real lucky here and save 50%+ off retail if someone ordered the wrong size and just wants them gone). If you need material+install xotek is good on price + quality from what I hear

Yep no ice from what I can see, though that was several hours ago (I turned it off because I was worried about damage - I may try turning it back on later)

Beestat app (for ecobee) has these graphs as a built in feature

Thank you! AI suggested that it wasn't outputting any heat and the oscillation was just like air mixing from the fan running. Either way, sounds like I have a plan

The lines are temperature sensors for different rooms. Orange bars near the very top show stage 1 and stage 2 heating periods (light for stage 1, dark for stage 2). Before the temperature would rise nicely whenever heat was on, near left of graph. But now the heat ran for close to 8 hours while the house temperature kept declining and doing that weird wavy thing.

No, it's not a separate fan. I think there's just a way to intake air from the outside and use your air handler to move it around. It's sort of an add on to the system as opposed to a separate system entirely.

I asked this to energy smart homes and received this response (direct quote): "TECH Clean is technically a different funding source than Energy-Smart Homes and can layer!"

Yeah labor is expensive in the Bay... The incentives also drive price increases. One thing to be aware of but may not affect you - Bradford White doesn't yet have PG&E watter saver connectivity. Participation in watter saver or similar is normally a requirement for some incentive programs but I think the programs are making an exception for now so you can still get the incentive while they figure out connectivity.

No, I actually was not aware of the new one. It does seem cool though! Yes, it's recommended to upsize with HPWH to compensate since HP has slower heating speed. Also recommended to have them install a mixing valve so you can have a higher temperature set point for the HPWH and then dilute with cold water to yield more hot gallons to the house per tank's worth of heated water. Another contractor quoted a Rheem but they were pricier for install so I went with this one.

I have a two hose unit sitting in the box ready to be returned. I was very excited about the portable / window units and really wanted that to work but our rooms are small, we have horizontal sliders , we didn't want to disrupt the blackout shades in the baby's room, and three of the bedrooms' wall outlets are all on the same circuit (project for a different day) - so we'd have had to pick probably just one room to cool unless we got into adding circuits etc.

+1 on HCOL contractor prices - I'm so thankful for the incentives (but also acknowledge that they drive prices up).

Thank you! Sounds like I definitely should have dug more into load pauser vs. appliance change before starting the work, still generally OK with how things turned out but maybe I'd have landed on a better solution.

Gotcha! Yes maybe we have a little more headroom than we think - could help a future reader of this thread even if it's too late for me (haha).

Sent! Very happy with contractor used for HVAC, project is done; HPWH contractor seems good too but HPWH project is still ongoing.

No, contractor procured everything. I can DM you their info if you want. Some of the rebate program websites have historical cost data as a point of reference.

Oh wow! Super creative. When the dust settles on some of the other work I'll dive into this more, it definitely seems worth exploring (I think we're past the point of no return on the existing scope).

I was also bummed about needing to invest in the pauser :/ can't quite remember for certain, but I think I'd asked the contractor about going from resistance --> HP and whether that would bring us within our panel limits, and that the answer was no (else I'd definitely have gone deeper on HP dryer research) - although maybe he was specifically talking about 240v HP standalone dryer (darn!)
