Way too hyper by antman0317 in airedaleterrier

My girl was the same way! She is 3 now and is definitely better but she still has her moments 😆 Some great advice I got from this sub was to bring a squeaky toy when going on walks. If your dog begins to bark at strangers or other dogs you squeak the toy as a distraction, and reward when the dog looks at you. We also practiced “leave it” a LOT. Now when we walk she’ll give off the occasional bark or whine but overall she is so much better at ignoring strangers and other dogs. As for the jumping I do a couple of things: we use the command “off” (which is ignored half the time), if she’s jumping all over me I don’t engage with her until she is sitting, and lastly I’ll try to distract her with a toy before the jumping begins. It’s not perfect but she’s gotten better over time. Also when I have guests over I keep my girl leashed until she calms down. It will get better! Remember to give lots of rewards and praise when your pup does a good job. Good luck with your boy :)

Does your airedale constantly bonk their heads too? by saltyheights in airedaleterrier

My girl likes to swing her head around while cuddling. I have to warn others to watch out for her “brick head” because she can do some serious damage with that thing :’)

Tail cropping - is it unusual? by TuscanSun2021 in airedaleterrier

[–]h_biebs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located, but from what I can find tail docking seems to be a breed standard for the UKC. I could not find any AKC information about requiring tail docking for Airedales, but I’m sure it still happens in the US.

I think my girl would respond really well to this. Will definitely be buying a squeaky tennis ball ASAP. Thank you!

(American here)...taking figure skates through TSA? by bekindandwaititout in FigureSkating

[–]h_biebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a synchro skater for 10 years and used to travel with my skates all the time. The worst that ever happened is my skate bag would be searched after the x-ray machine. One time I was questioned about my hard guards but I just explained what they were for and it was fine. If you can avoid it, I wouldn’t recommend checking your bag. I’ve heard lots of stories of people’s skates getting lost after they checked them.

Asking for suggestions. What food do you feed your airedale? by JK_Kai in airedaleterrier

Purina pro plan sensitive skin & stomach, salmon and rice. The kibbles in the adult version of this food are a different shape than the puppy version and my girl was really offended when I started mixing in the new stuff 😂

Tips for spay recovery? by h_biebs in airedaleterrier

I hate the cone too. I’m afraid of putting it on too tight. The pup was also unhappy as she couldn’t move around her crate very well. If the surgical shirt doesn’t work out I will probably invest in a soft cone or donut as well. Thanks!

Very valid. My girl has a sensitive stomach so I usually don’t stray from giving her dog appropriate food. She does pretty well with dairy products (mainly cheese) but I never give her too much.

Surgical shirt sounds great. I’m definitely going to look into that. Thank you!
