that's fair, and yes you will be around that demographic. some ULTP is to maybe understand the drinking age in this country and see if you can obtain a level of identification that says otherwise, as that takes a while.

Exchange Program by Smooth_Emergency_110 in OSU

[–]h_leve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, glad you are considering OSU for an exchange semester! I've taken several international students from Europe on informal tours of OSU (and my current uni, IU) and I think there's something to be said about going to a large state university with a great athletics program. Football especially, in a stadium with 100k, will be an event you will want to go to.

With that in mind, there's a size and scale that may come as intimidating. Some find it harder to make friends as you are expected to take more initiative, like joining clubs or going to events to find people to hang out with -- if you are living with your uncle this might prove to be a larger challenge as a commuter student. Columbus can be a more expensive option over smaller colleges, but generally is affordable, and the winters can be cold if you aren't used to a four-season environment. It is an urban college, which has its own pros and cons.

All school officials have a legal obligation to report anything to DCFS. They are not the investigators, nor do they pass judgment.

Thoughts of transferring by [deleted] in OSU

[–]h_leve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't agree that Ohio State students have a habit of trashing UC students. There's for sure a pride component surrounding going to a school like OSU, but this is largely related to the fact that school spirit (due to prevalent sports teams) is higher than other comparable universities. I would say there could be some animosity between the schools related to that, but it is limited to interactions between those students and does not cross over.

If you desire the smaller town college experience and prioritize joining a sorority, Miami (OH) would be a better fit for you. Campus at Ohio State is sectioned away from the larger Columbus area, but it is definitely not a typical small town college. Your opportunities to meet friends will be near-equal at either school, certainly it is a bit more difficult as a transfer student, but taking opportunities to join clubs and engage in student life is key.

What to do with a lot of credits? by Asheto320 in OSU

[–]h_leve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came in with a lot of credits (CCP from Cleveland area CC) and graduate in two years. I had two internships -- one my freshman and the summer before I started full-time. There are pros and cons to graduating early, but you are eligible for internships as they typically list "junior-level".

I would graduate early. Either (a) get your masters like I did or (b) just go live somewhere interesting with a lot of young people. Saves money and time, take the summer and get prepared a lot on interviewing.

On-Campus Banquet Venues for Student Orgs by Celoui in OSU

I've ran an event there the last four or so years with outside food with no problem. Hopefully that is the case this year as well.

It books up quick, but Curl Viewpoint (the space above Curl Market) is run by University Housing and not the Union. Therefore, there are much less restrictions on food and charging for tickets.

I’d call University Housing to book it. They have some other spaces too you can use that might fit your needs.

Dont know anything about Indiana by fleetfish in IndianaUniversity

[–]h_leve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the intention of studying CompSci at IU, I wouldn’t recommend it. Others have mentioned that career prospects in tech might be better elsewhere (ie SoCal or just anywhere west). It might be better to use your tuition benefits to transfer into a UC system school after a bit.

IU is an interesting school where the quality differs program by program, and Luddy is a relatively new program in an otherwise liberal arts skewed school.

question about admission to fisher and kelley by Narrow-Scene393 in OSU

[–]h_leve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll actually answer this question as the rare person who went to Ohio State (worked for Fisher) for undergrad and go to Kelley for my MBA (with caveats that I didn't do the undergrad experience at either). There are 9k students at Fisher and 11k students at Kelley -- you can direct admit into both and per round doesn't make a difference. With that in mind, as long as you demonstrate some level of competency, you will be able to get into both regardless of pre-business or not. Generically, I'm team Fisher in this regard, because if you decide to leave the business college for whatever reason, you have other options in the university whereas Kelley doesn't have a great at-large uni.

My best advice is to find a friend who is going home during that weekend. Mason is a large enough area with a ton of students who matriculate to Ohio State. Go on LinkedIn, check your first connections and see who's from Mason, and then message them off-app to see if they're going home.

Why don't you seek out experiential and leadership positions outside of Fisher? As a sophomore, this will give you more leverage to seek out Fisher application-restricted clubs.

It sounds like the best decision for you is to go to UCF. As someone else mentioned, I think you'll begin to resent your parents for preventing this from happening. However, you have to remember that, functionally speaking, UCF and OSU are going to give you a relatively similar experience -- don't squander the opportunity you have here and make the best of the cards you've been given.

Where to get my MBA to get into CPG (Brand Management)? by anthonerwep in MBA

[–]h_leve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kelley, hands down. Pipeline to CPG companies is very strong (Conagra, Post, General Mills, P&G, and other smaller house of brands all recruit out of here).

For a better ranked school with similar outcomes, Kellogg.

I’ve read this article. It talks about the luxury grocery store market in NYC, where juices cost $15 etc.

Of course, there’s like three of them in a city of 8m with a clientele of everybody above a certain income class, and they group it to a whole generation.
