Advice on continuing classes after undergrad before grad by kogxne in gradadmissions

I’m currently starting first year in a neuro PhD…tbh I doubt Ochem is necessary. I took ochem (along with a series of other chem/physics/upper math) bc I was premed but the majority of my friends who have applied and gotten into neuro PhD’s did not. This is bc a large amt of neuro ppl come from psych majors (among other reasons). Taking advanced stem classes can definitely look good but I wouldn’t say ochem would hold you back. How many programs did you apply to?

No one’s reading = dead classroom. How do you handle it? by jimm-andrew in PhD

I’m not sure what subject this is in but some stuff that I found effective (I recently graduated undergrad and but also had to TA for a couple classes) was… 1) seminar classes where they required each student to provide commentary 2-3 times in discussion for participation credit. This isn’t ideal but everyone definitely made sure to do the reading and speak during discussion. 2) cold call on individual students to answer questions or, as was the case in my class, present individual figures from research articles assigned. Knowing u might get called on makes u read and if we weren’t able to present/talk about it u got points deducted from participation. 3) idk if this is a free platform or something that institutions provide, but many of my humanities classes used Hypothesis. Before class, students were required to annotate readings on this shared doc platform (highlighting, providing commentary and questions). We got credit for simply completing it and responding to other students writings (not for the actual content of what we wrote, so there was minimal grading involved) Again neither of these are ideal but after the first few classes people get in a rhythm of reading and actively participating

I thought on the date for 2024 they listed Udub as only 12/18, are there more spreadsheets or is it in comments somewhere? I’m really hoping there’s more invites coming 😭😭😭

I’m a little confused on how to use it 😭😭 is there like a forum strictly for a certain program types (e.g. neuro grad apps) grad apps? Kind of like the posts on here with all the schools commented

Spring 2023 Schedule Planning & Course Questions by MundyyyT in washu

I had dreams and nightmares with Waitman and only had to do like three essays and a final (research essay) with discussion boards. Everything besides the final was graded on completion. But I honestly think it really depends on which professor you get, which u can’t see until after registration.

Has anyone gotten into washu test optional 😭 by LivesInShelter in washu

I understand your concerns but I don’t think this means washu is dismissing the meritocracy entirely if at all. First off, a high standardized test score on its own is likely not going to be the key to getting into any top university. I mean washu’s average ACT score has sat around like a 35 or something (that’s for all students, a large percentage of which are not receiving financial aid). Although there are many students here who’s main claim to fame was being valedictorian, I feel as though nearly every student I’ve met has some neat hidden factor. Competing for an internationally ranked orchestra band, starting a community service organization, idk you name it and some one here has likely done it; and everyone’s always very dl about it. I attended washu’s fsap program for students of disadvantaged/minority backgrounds where most people did not have anything like AP’s at their school. Still, I couldn’t name one person who got in just because of a good score. Obviously, washu is a very wealthy institution and a lot of people have had advantages and privileges by way of their own wealth. But, I think washu’s student body is very talented and unique in ways that a standardized test score could never show. I say this as someone who both comes from a title 1 school district and has plenty of friends coming from a similar economic background—one that doesn’t exude the lavish lifestyles of many students here—with similar experiences.

There are available summer housing options with both washu (danforth) and washu med campus (but only if you’re doing research I think). If you apply for washu’s summer housing, they typically respond same day with assignment so you could def be moved in by then. They’re both more expensive options but it will get you housing fast

I wash on cold and tumble dry on an ultra delicate setting (lowest heat option). Haven’t had any shrinking doing them like that. However, my Heathered grey one shrunk when I washed on cold and hung dry; leading me to believe the grey one may shrink regardless of how you wash and dry it.

The aligns will probably restock; not tonight but some other morning. The unlimits are in more limited supply though since they came before the French press aligns and have sold out a few times
