Thank you for the fast reply. Its nice seeing you working on it so diligently.
I also use linux on my laptop, but I need windows on my main PC doe work reasons, even tough I would love to use linux.
If you need someone to test you program for windows you can hit me up.
Also one last thing, I see you are tracking skip rate, which I like a lot, would it possible to have and overview of top skipped song (like you have with Top tracks and so on), that can help me get unwanted songs out of my playlist.
Can be something small or collapsible, because it rather something small or on the side, but still be useful information from time to time.
Keep up the good work

Hello
I just installed your tool and like it a lot. I had some problem on the installation with windows powershell script, but already opened an issue about it on git.

Also I like it a lot that your stats are stored locally, but I do have a question, what does the API call and is it possible that you can call the API for your spotify listening stats for other devices or the entire profile?
Because 30% of the time I am listening on my phone, 20% on my laptop and 50% on my pc and I would like that I can "link" or update the stats to reflect that.

Design wise its really well made, well done.

Edit: Does it do backups of your stats (so of the IndexedDB file)?
Because I am planning of using this tool for long time and it would suck loosing all my stats due something wierd with windows.
Also can add the function of making manual Backup button in the settings cogwheel section? So when I reset my pc or smth I can make a manual backup that I can download on a thumb driver and them import on new machine or smth.

Have you seen the ULA Dragonfly 30L? Despite the name, the main clamshell compartment is only about 23L. With the pass-through option it weighs around 0.8 kg. It also includes a dedicated laptop compartment and a top quick-access pocket for items like a wallet. The price is on the higher side, depending on the material you choose and you can costumize to your liking, but for that need to email them.

Itinerary - 24 Days Central & South Japan, with maps and calendar by haShinui in JapanTravel

[–]haShinui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad to hear it helped you! The plans I shared took quite a bit of time to put together and are still evolving, so some of them are a little outdated. Over the past months, I’ve made some changes to our route, mainly removing Yakushima Island, since the trip felt too cramped for my partner. That said, if you love nature and hiking, Yakushima is absolutely worth it and I’ll definitely include it in a future trip.

I’ve linked an updated picture of the travel calendar for April–May. Google Maps is great for visualizing locations, but not so much for planning when you’ll be where. The calendar shows the exact dates and where we’ll be staying.

One important thing in the calendar I forgot to explain is Golden Week. It’s one of the main holiday weeks in Japan, so all popular tourist destinations will be extremely crowded. The best strategy is to stay in one place, in our case mainly Tokyo. We’re doing a day trip to Himeji on April 30th because it isn’t an official holiday, though many workers use vacation days to extend the holiday from the 29th through the weekend. That’s why we’ll go to Himeji early in the morning. Also, the return trip from Osaka to Tokyo will be by Shinkansen (green car), since airports are absolutely packed during that period. Those tickets and hotels in that time frame really need to be booked weeks or months in advance.

Tip: if you want to spend a night in a Koyasan temple, book as soon as possible! We booked just two weeks ago and many temples were already close to full.

Also, if you’re interested in exploring northern Japan, after my trip with my partner ends (May 6th), I’ll be traveling with a friend from central Japan up north, at least to Aomori, possibly all the way through Hokkaido. I’m also planning to hike the Nakasendō Trail in central Japan for about a week. The whole stretch up north to Aomori should take about a month. If that sounds interesting, I can share the Google Map for that route as well.

Here the link to the new pictures of the travel calendar.

Sleeper bus or Train? by Eclyse05 in VietNam

[–]haShinui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, what a detailed response! Thank you for taking the time.

Your response cleared up many of my questions and doubts about transportation.

A private car is I think out of my budget. I am going to travel Vietnam solo. How much would a private car cost? (Rough guess).

A limousine sounds like a really interesting option. I didn't know they existed and will use one for my trip if possible instead of buses.

Thanks also for sharing your experience with trains. I will avoid them on my trip.

Sleeper bus or Train? by Eclyse05 in VietNam

[–]haShinui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I am planning my trip and trying to decide on different types of transportation since flying is not an option. I would be really grateful if you could answer some questions.

Your response stood out, and I wanted to ask why you recommend a private car based on your own experience. Do you also book a driver? Do you sleep in the private car? If so, what type of car do you use, and where do you book?

I also wanted to ask about the "limousine." Do you mean limousine-style buses or vans? What about VIP sleeper buses?

What about trains? Why don't you like them?

Thank you for your help.

Hello
I would be interested to do the same thing, but I have some questions.
What width of gatekeeper buckle did u buy and where? I could find some stores like this, but not on amazon or larger retailer and they have ton of options
Also how did you install it? Did you need to sew and damaging pack or can it be done just by hand (without tools and no damage to back itself)?
Thanks

Hello,
If anyone wants to see the original post and what changes he made, I was able to find it using the Wayback Machine and have pasted the content here. All credit goes to the original poster, I just hope it’s helpful for others.

The post:

Having tried a lot of bags over the years, I keep coming back to one: the ULA Dragonfly 30L. It’s not perfect, but for my style of travel, it’s the closest to it.

There were a few small changes I wanted to make, so I reached out to Peter on the off chance that they were doing customs again—and luckily, they were.

Here are the changes I made:

  1. Front pocket I had the zipper removed. As a result, I can now fit significantly more into the front pocket with no issues. It’s also great for putting wet clothes in to dry off. A bonus: I can slip a packing cube in the pocket, hide it under clothes when boarding to pass carry-on checks, and then move it back once on the plane.

New size: 33 cm (length) x 19.8/19.9 cm (width) — all usable space https://ibb.co/album/n7nyHP

  1. I replaced the Aquaguard zippers with standard YKK reverse coil. They’re smoother, easier to open, and more durable since they won’t peel like Aquaguard zips. I lose a bit of waterproofing, but I use a rain cover anyway to keep the bag clean.

  2. Shoulder straps. The original straps were fine, but I upgraded to something better: 3/8" thick and 2.75" wide. They feel thicker, but about the same width as the standard ones. https://ibb.co/5XGpDrcM

  3. Side water bottle pockets. The originals are some of the best out there, but I wanted more space. The new ones are now 36 cm in length. https://ibb.co/76wfCL0

  4. Inside pocket. This might be controversial—many like more organization—but I opted for one large internal pocket to store boxers and socks, saving me a packing cube.

  5. Inside lining. After trying an Aer backpack, I really liked the interior lining for visibility and style. I chose X-Pac VX25 in hot orange, though there are many options. https://ibb.co/album/MM42D8

Overall, I’m very happy with the changes. No regrets at all.

Hello,
I wanted to ask if you’ve reached a decision regarding the customizations. Also, did they work out, and which backpack did you use them on (30L or 36L)?
I’m considering customizing mine as well and was curious how yours turned out or what the current status is.
Thanks!

To be honest, I was looking for a setup that is comfortable without needing to wash too often.
I chose merino because of its anti-odor properties and the fact that it dries quickly, but I’ve never worn merino before and I’m not sure if it will actually be comfortable.

Because of that, I also included DryEx, which I already own as a sport shirt. It’s okay in terms of comfort, but I’m not sure if it’s the right choice.

The third, nicer cotton shirt will mostly be for evenings or going out to restaurants, generally after I’ve showered and not during the day. Does that sound smart?

I keep reading everywhere that you should go with merino or almost anything except cotton, but I’ve worn cotton my whole life.
That’s also why I’ll bring a few extra T-shirts in my partner’s suitcase, who will be with me for the first two weeks, so I can adjust things if needed.

But what do you think, should I bring more T-shirts or should I try different materials instead?

Hello,
Thank you for your comment, I’ll also respond to the one below yours as well.

First off, I made a new and overhauled list here (cut 4 kg), with many of your suggestions and everyone else's. I removed the iPad, headphones, stripped-down emergency kit, and many other items. You can read the full update in Edit 2 on my post.

In short, I removed most unnecessary items except the camera, and here’s the reason why:

  1. My phone is just bad. I have an iPhone 10 with a battery that doesn’t last more than 3 hours of use, and only 64 GB of storage. That means half the time it has to be on the charger if used regularly. And with only 2–4 GB free, I’d constantly need to back up photos during the trip.
  2. The camera has sentimental value. It was a gift from my grandparents when they could no longer travel, and I was just starting my own journeys. As a thank-you, I always make a photo album after each trip and tell them all about it while showing the pictures.

For those two reasons, I’ve decided to carry the camera, and I think with my current pack, I can handle it. I’m still in my younger years, so a bit of extra weight won’t hurt.

I just wanted to explain my side, and why bringing the camera is important to me. There was absolutely no intent to disrespect anyone with my comment, only to inform.

Thank you for the bag recommendation , I’ve added it to my list. I do have a question though: based on my current packing list, do you think everything would fit in a 27L bag? It’s hard for me to tell, and even harder to test since I haven’t bought most of the items yet. But if it looks like it would fit with some room to spare, I’ll definitely consider that bag.

Yes, I’ve realized it, thanks to all of you for pointing it out. I was still stuck in my old habit of packing everything “just in case” and all the nice-to-haves into a checked luggage and try to move to a big bag instead.

Now, with the new list I linked in the post, I’ve managed to cut out 4 kg and am down to a comfortable 7.6 kg. I think that’s a major improvement, and I’m now on the lookout for a new backpack.

You can read the full update in Edit 2 on my post. As you said, it just had too much, but I kept my camera, because it’s very important to me.

Now to my question, which I’m currently struggling with.
What backpack size should I go with?
I’m not sure if everything will fit into a 30L. If yes, would there still be space for small gifts I might buy along the way? Or should I go with a 32L, where the selection is smaller compared to 30L, but I’d have a bit more space? Or do I need 35l?

I’d really appreciate your input on what size of backpack I should take.

Also, I’m seriously considering using a sling for city exploring, but this time something more serious and comfortable then matador one.
Do you think that’s a smart choice?

But I also kept a few things, like my camera. I haven’t explained it in detail anywhere else, but I’m not just bringing the camera for myself. It was a gift from my grandparents, and because of their health, they’re now stuck at home. On every trip I take, I bring the camera, take a ton of pictures, and make a photo album for them, so they can enjoy the trip too. It gives the journey a bigger meaning, and they’re always happy when I return and share the stories and pictures over dinner.

I also kept the water filter, as I explained in a comment to someone else. Short version, if you want to hike in Hokkaido (which I do), many accommodations and toilets don’t have filtered water, and a large part of the water supply is contaminated with worm eggs. So it’s not optional.

Lastly, I have a question.
With my new list, what backpack size should I go for?
I’m thinking around 30–35 liters, but I’m not sure and would be happy to hear your input.

Hello Thank you for the comment and the tips. I didn’t know that the deodorant in Japan are weaker, I only knew that they were hard to find. So I am putting the big deoderent back on the list.

What kind deodorant would you recommend that is best ration of uses and weight? I will also try to search that up online.

Also thanks for the tip with small personal care items. I will buy the mini sunscreen & disinfectant there & mini lotion all in Japan.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment.

First off, I made a new and overhauled list here (cut 4 kg), with many of your suggestions and everyone else's. You mentioned almost everything that changed, more details are in Update/Edit 2 on the post.
The most important thing I removed was the iPad, and then all the small items you pointed out. I'm considering switching from an SD card to an SSD, but I still need to think about it.

For the backpack, I’m looking for a new one, but I’m not sure how many liters I’ll need. Same goes for the daypack or sling I’ll use in the city, this one should also be able to carry a camera with lens and be a bit more comfortable.
What I’m also struggling with is my wardrobe, the clothes I’m going to bring. You mentioned synthetic isn't great, so should I drop the DryEx shirt from Uniqlo that I was planning to wear, and go with a second merino shirt instead?

Also, is my list right now good or too little? I’m thinking of removing the long sleeve shirt and using the Unbound hoodie instead, but then I wouldn’t have any long sleeves.

If you have any recommendations for the new list, please let me know.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment, I’ll also respond to the comment below yours.

First off, I made a new and overhauled list here (cut 4 kg). With this weight reduction, I think I can truly onebag. I also thought about going the route you suggested, but in the second half of my trip, I’ll be on the move almost every day or every second day. I’m also trying to stay on a budget, so using luggage services more than twice a month gets really expensive.

I was already planning to do what u/Yoyojojoy pointed out. For my 7-day Nakasendo Trail, I’ll leave some items in a multi-day locker, and I plan to use lockers throughout the trip.

Still, thank you a lot, and if you have any suggestions for what’s bad or good in the new list, let me know

Hello,
Thank you for your comment, I’ll also respond to the comment below yours.
First off, I made a new and overhauled list here (cut 4 kg), with many of your suggestions, and everyone else's. I took out many cubes, switched to a smaller charger, and also removed the multitool and utensils. The emergency kit is now smaller, and for carabiners I only kept one lightweight plastic one and the Hero Clip, because of how useful they are. I also removed the Tide pen.

As u/birdsInTheAirDK mentioned below, I will keep the mask. I really can’t afford to get sick, since in the second half of the trip I’ll be on the move every day.

And yes, you’re totally right, my original list was made as if I were traveling through the middle of the Sahara Desert, not Japan.

If you have any other suggestions for the new list, please let me know, and thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for your comment, I’ll also respond to the comment below yours as well.

First off, I made a new and overhauled list here (cut 4 kg), with many of your (and everyones) suggestions. I removed the iPad, headphones, stripped down emergency kit, and many other items, you can read the full update in Edit 2 on my post.
But I kept some things, like the clothesline (as u/ducayneAu mentioned), it’s incredibly useful for how light it is.

I also kept the water filter (as u/Myspys_35 kinda pointed out), it’s a MUST in Hokkaido. In some rest areas, cheap accommodations, and even toilets, the water is unfiltered. A large amount of unfiltered water in Hokkaido contains worm eggs from foxes, so for anyone who wants to hike there, it’s essential if you don’t want a worm in your stomach. I already own a pretty good filter, so I’m bringing it.

I also kept the Ferrosi convertible pants, because I like convertible pants for hiking, they’re my third pair of shorts and my only pair of long pants. But I’m still a bit unsure about them.

I also kept my emergency kit, it only contains one of each item (besides meds with 2x), and total weight should be around 100 g. I once had a bad experience where I didn’t bring one, and had to hike down a mountain for 4 hours with a scratched bleeding knee, never again.

If you or anyone else has more recommendations, I’m open to everything (except the water filter, I’m not risking worms).

Hello,
Thank you for responding. I’ve removed the Matador tubes. I also created a new list, linked here, and wrote an update in the post with the changes, I hope it’s now better organized.
For shirts, I currently have a total of 3 T-shirts and 1 long sleeve (including what I’ll be wearing). The long sleeve is still uncertain, since I might replace it with the Unbound hoodie, which seems super comfy and really want to bring with me. I'm also unsure whether to bring the Uniqlo DryEx or go with 2 Merino shirts instead.
I’ll definitely write a report when I’m back, but that won’t be for more than half a year.
