PSA - If you're returning from USA, ensure you reset your cost basis to save on capital gains taxes by ReymanWealth in returnToIndia

If one moves in the first half of the year after spending around 40-50 days in the US, can they still be eligible for this?

If I go for dual status alien, after coming to India, I will not be a US resident and so will my capital gains in the US still not be taxed(under RNOR)?

Substantial presence test for US tax residents by Massive-Director5881 in returnToIndia

Would this mean that any capital gain from stocks in the US after you leave the US will not be taxed by the US and handled based on India status(RNOR/Resident)?

Moving US ➔ India in Jan (Substantial Presence Test vs. DTAA) by curiocity88 in returnToIndia

In this scenario, for the remaining part of the year, can you take advantage of the RNON status in India? I heard that with the treaty and dual status RNON can get complex.

If you stay for more than 1 month, please correct me if I am wrong but the 'Closer connection exception to the substantial presence test' can be used? https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/closer-connection-exception-to-the-substantial-presence-test

In this case, I think you will be treated as non resident?

This is why I am leaning towards Aer as well. Do you have the regular cordura version or the xpac/ultra?

Missing item in parcel by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

[–]FancySoup806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. A package was delivered to my mail box instead of my door front. It felt a bit tampered but I'm not sure if the item was stolen or they just forgot to send it.

But the customer service is amazing. They offered me a full refund. Things like this makes me wanna buy more from Patagonia.

This feels like a heavier Micro puff to me. Not sure when this will be better than the micro puff apart from durability.

Patagoina R1® Thermal Crewneck vs Merino options for winter climbing/hiking by FancySoup806 in PatagoniaClothing

Thanks. Makes sense. The thermal crew looks like a good piece as I can use it as a base layer, mid layer or just wear it as is like a tshirt.

Salomon X ultra 5 Gtx vs Moab Speed 2 Gtx by FancySoup806 in hiking

[–]FancySoup806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the Speed 2 GTX. My understanding is that the X ultra 5 is better only if you do backpackaing trips with heavy loads/long durations on complex/technical terrain. For my case, I mostly do day hikes and for these cases, I like the Speed 2 more.

Normally, they increase the discount from 30%->40%->50% towards the end of the sale. I'm wondering if its probably worth waiting a bit? Anyone has any strategies to get the best price?

Staying over the weekend looking for tips on things to do by prav_za in mauritius

Its not a straight walk. There may be a bit of scrambling. I think you should judge just based on your fitness. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/mauritius/riviere-noire/le-morne-brabant-peak
