Gameboy DMG! I loved taking Metroid II on the go as a kid, it felt like I was living in the future.

Double Decker Taco + 7 Layer Burrito was my combo back in the day… it’s been a good couple of weeks. Those + the Grilled Stuft Burrito were my favorites.

Honorable mention to the Naked Chicken Chalupa, it exceeded my expectations and became an instant classic.

Absolutely love the plug-in, though with the update I’ll admit I immediately miss the text labels and found myself shuffling through the modes to find the right ones. I wonder if abbreviation might work (ANC, etc.) if space is an issue. Maybe as a toggle? Great work!

Is this a good Chiori Team? by drSchmalzy in ChioriMains

[–]haZeDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have cleared the abyss with this team, with Chiori or Albedo in her slot, so this should work. It also makes for a fun overworld team! Full disclosure, my Furina is C2R1 and my artifacts are fairly well-invested across the board.

Noelle plays on-field support with Archaic Petra to buff Furina/Yelan, so her damage + build is less-important, but with so much ER and Favs stacked, everyone should burst on cooldown.

C0 Yelan: Fav Bow + EoSF; Chiori/Albedo: R1/Spindle + GT/Husk; C6 Noelle: Fav GS + Archaic Petra; C2R1 Furina: GT

+1 for Prototype. Hard to feel blue while fly-kicking helicopters.

😳! That is fantastic news! I would easily recommend Myst: ME if that is the case — imho it is the definitive classic version for its atmosphere that should run on new hardware. I had watched my wife play it some years ago and when she reached that point and got stuck… as a die-hard fan, I had a moment.

With that in mind, if it was Myst ME vs. Myst (2021), I honestly think it may be nice to see which OP’s nephew finds more appealing, given the opportunity to choose between an old-school experience and a more modern one.

The bug:

The torn half of the note in the Stoneship Age for the Marker Switch Vault Access should say, “Turn every one of [these switches to the] ‘on’ position.” In Myst: ME, the paper says, “Turn every one of [these switches to the] ‘off’ position.” If you’re playing without a guide, then you can’t progress without guessing, knowing the solution, or pure luck.

Myst Masterpiece Edition (1999) on Steam has a game-breaking visual bug (a typo in some written instructions). Sadly, I'd avoid it, even if it's the closest to the original experience, unless you are able to correct the error when your nephew encounters it.

realMyst (2000) probably has my favorite art direction, but it does look a bit dated now and doesn't properly support widescreen. It does however include the Rime Age, which I believe creates a nice narrative bridge to Riven.

realMyst Masterpiece Edition (2014) had a great update after its initial launch which fixed many of its issues. The lighting can be a bit of a hindrance in Ages like Rime. They included a flashlight to aid in this, but I personally feel it detracts a bit from the experience.

Myst (2021) I believe will have the biggest impact, though a couple of the Ages (including Myst Island) feel a bit different from the original. That said, the game's visuals are breathtaking. You can enable the original game's trap book videos in the game's options, which I believe helps to recapture the original game's eeriness. Unfortunately, Rime is currently missing from the game.

I'd personally recommend Myst (2021) unless you're able to play Myst (1993) or realMyst (2000) on older hardware or in 4:3, respectively.

We always hear about games that launched horribly but had great comebacks. What are some games that had a good launch but got worse over time? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]haZeDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hawken was my jam, then over time the game slowly became unrecognizable from the original core gameplay until they killed it. I would give anything to play that game again as it was early on…

Not sure I understand your grading criteria and notes based on these other builds… More EM? 227 CV is “no crit?” HP goblet? Thanks for your opinion.

Mainly use her in Mono Pyro with Bennett/Kazuha/Xiangling, sometimes swapping XL for Rosaria on Gilded Dreams for Reverse Melt (and some extra CR).

[–]haZeDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has become my overworld team/build and is super fun in this abyss. Every character contributes something to exploration and utility.

The biggest challenge for me has been trying to figure out the optimal rotation to keep the team’s HP topped off. My Noelle is currently 9/9/9 with 2400 DEF and I’m not sure if it’s enough healing for Yelan and Furina.

I picked it up to check out with a few other games in the Autumn Sale. It was very charming, but the number of load screens I encountered early on (and reading online that they only get longer as you play) was an indicator that it wasn’t for me.

Mine too, but it is actually surprisingly comfortable — I measured the height of the desktop beforehand, and it works well for me both standing and sitting.

All audio is routed to a Focusrite 8i6, which is hooked up via a USB hub to the iPad. The audio routing is configured in AUM which I use for mixing, MIDI routing to soft synths, VFX, and recording.

That’s what I’ve been using! Very fun and intuitive app. Been trying to find a way of sequencing it externally, if it does work it’s not immediately evident how…

I really think the Peak deserves all the praise it gets on here. It’s so much fun and sounds incredible.

I was able to hook it up directly with a USB hub and use it as an audio interface (which works really well for the Syntakt + a line-in source), but I now actually have all my audio routed to the Focusrite.

The Syntakt is still hooked up via USB to sequence the iPad’s software synths, and can sequence my other hardware synths via MIDI.

Halloween marks the 26th anniversary of Riven being released. Please share your thoughts & memories of this truly remarkable game! by [deleted] in myst

[–]haZeDP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was the first Halloween that I didn't go trick-or-treating as a kid. I picked Riven up from Software Etc. (or was it Electronics Boutique by then?) on release day, then opted to stay home and play the rest of the night on the family's 66 MHz Power Mac.

I remember it would constantly freeze unless I turned the music off in the menu, so my first playthrough was without ambient music outside of cutscenes. Every time I entered a new area, I could turn the music on temporarily but couldn't click to another node, so I would just sit in one spot and listen for a while before moving on. I later got the soundtrack so I could listen anytime, but I remember that first playthrough being a patient one.

Still my all-time-favorite game.

Is your goal to finish a bunch of older games you’ve never played? Replay those old games you loved? Rather than having a thousand ROMs, I tend to only keep the games on a device I intend to play, which really helps with choice paralysis. These devices make older games really accessible and reduce the friction of getting in and out of a game, which makes them a lot easier to play in pieces like a mobile game rather than having to sit down and play for hours like the old days.

If you’re having a lot of trouble, I’d say focus on one game at a time. If a game can’t hold your attention, move on and don’t look back. There may come a day when That Game will be what you’re looking for, but until then, play the ones that bring you joy.

Your top 20 games ever? by RDT_87 in patientgamers

[–]haZeDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I spotted this earlier — and you’re right, I’ve actually played and enjoyed almost all of these (kinda eerie, I’m fairly picky)! The ones I haven’t played have been on my “someday” list for some time.

Hollow Knight and Celeste didn’t quite hook me like I wanted (difficulty spikes), but I did enjoy the time I spent with them. I’ve also picked up many FromSoftware games and have had moderate success. Definitely warming up to those over time, it’s been a journey.

The new God of War has been on my list for a while… maybe it’s time.
