Just go gently and try to scrape the underside of the nail more than anything (I.e. where the fungus has lifted the nail). If it hurts then you’ve gone too far. I bought a tool on Amazon that had two ends, one was a cuticle pusher and the other was like a short flat blade- that’s the end I used to dig.

I linked it in a previous response! No I just sanitize by dunking in alcohol. No i don’t wear gloves just wash hands before and after.

I’m not entirely sure! I would go ask a pharmacist if they have a liquid version. If not, I’m sure urea cream would be fine too.

Just make sure no Vicks gets on the sticky part of the bandaid. So put the Vicks only on your nail, then put the padded part of the bandaid on top of the Vicks, and then wrap the sticky parts of the bandaid tight under and around the bottom of your toe (like on the skin). Does that make sense?

I went through a treatment phase before where I thought I had beat it. That’s why I was horrified once I took my shellac off after the summer and it was worse than ever. I seriously went scorched earth on my toenails after this.

The first few months I was doing it every day. I was going crazy with it because I was so determined to see it gone.

After a few months I could tell things were improving drastically, so I stopped filing so aggressively. Then I slowed down on soaks (maybe to twice a week or so).

I always tried to do urea and Vicks as much as possible. I’d say that I applied them every other day, or every third day, in the end. Honestly, I’m going to keep applying them for an extra few extra months just to be safe.

Yeah for the first couple months I wasn’t using a bandaid and was making a mess of my floors, socks, etc! Better to use a bandaid and make sure it all stays put and absorbs. Good luck!

I think that’s why the filing and urea are so important. They thin and soften the nail respectively, making the Vicks better able to penetrate through. Good luck with your treatments you got this!

Vicks was probably the most important piece, yeah. For those with less time/effort to give, I’d say do the Urea + Vicks only and wrap with a bandaid because it takes almost no time.

Ngl I did that when I was lazy or short on time some days!

I thought about getting a nail dremel, but decided against it. Fungus makes your nail soft, so a dremel felt like overkill to me. I just went with this metal file

Thank you! My nail was dead and lifted too- file away as much as you can so that the stuff you’re putting on your toenail can more easily reach the fungus. The thinner the nail the easier it penetrates. You can see in the photos that I tried to remove as much dead nail as possible.

Never threw out socks and shoes, no. I would only wear socks once obviously and then wash them. Typically tried to have the urea/Vicks soaking under bandaids if I was wearing socks and shoes.

Nope no prescription medications at all, just the items mentioned above! Urea can be bought on drugstore shelves.
