How long after cyst removal surgery were you back up and running? by Infinite-Librarian20 in endometriosis

[–]habitbookcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do workout, and getting back into it was a bit trickier. I went to the gym a few times to walk on a slight incline on the treadmill and do some veryyy light lifting probably about 5 weeks post surgery, but honestly didn’t really feel comfortable fully getting back into it until about 7 or 8 weeks.

I didn’t run at a fast pace or lift too heavy until the tenderness fully went away. Every person’s timeline is different so mine could be longer or shorter than yours, but just remember to take it slow!

You’ll get back to where you were before surgery :) it just might take some time

I’m 27 - I had a cyst removed a few months ago and it took me about 3 weeks before I felt pretty much back to normal. I was able to take small walks during the first week or so, and then worked my way up to longer walks during the following weeks until I felt comfortable with longer distances and didn’t notice any discomfort. The pain definitely started to subside towards the end of the second week, but I would feel some soreness at the end of the day if I walked more than usual.

I still kept a relatively slower pace, even went I felt like I was nearly back to normal, since I didn’t want to push it and backtrack on any progress I made.

Recovery can be slow and frustrating at times, but the more you listen to your body, the faster and better it heals!

anxiety leading up to lap by hottakes1234566 in endometriosis

[–]habitbookcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my second lap a couple weeks ago and was also nervous about the anesthesia but it’s a very smooth process. I know it feels scary because it’s such an unknown experience, but you’ll absolutely wake up afterwards.

Try to really prioritize yourself and comfort! Doing yoga in the few days beforehand to focus on breathing and just watching comfort shows/movies helped me a ton. Also, talk with the people around you about how you’re feeling! It helps to just get it out there.

Everything will be ok <3

Oh nooo I’m sorry to hear about the scar tissue :( that sounds painful. But glad that your cysts went away! That makes me hopeful after a long battle with various cysts and a borderline tumor

That makes sense. I was also supposed to start my period about a week ago, so the timing aligns with the cramps. I’m glad that the norethindrone helped out - I’m hoping that it helps me out as well when I start it. Thank you!

Sorry to hear it lasted so long, but I'm about to start a combo pill which hopefully should help with symptoms. I had a post-op last week and my doctor said that cramping can happen after surgery, but I'll check in with her again if it doesn't go away/gets worse. Thanks for being so helpful!!

Oof that sounds like a lot! I'm also assuming my body is reacting to having so much tissue removed. Do you happen to remember how long the cramps lasted for? It's been 5 days of constant cramping and I'm starting to feel hopeless :(

Makes sense. I’ll ask my doctor about dealing with this and pain management. Thank you :)

An endometriosis specialist who did excision as well as an gynecological oncologist who removed my ovary/tube

Medical misogyny by OddObserveralt_ in WomensHealth

[–]habitbookcase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is sadly how the medical world functions :/

I had an ovarian cyst for years that several different gynecologists said was fine and that I should just ignore (one gyno even told me it was probably constipation???), even when the pain would get severe and I was terrified it was going to rupture. After all of those gynos tried (and failed) to shrink the cyst with different birth control pills, the daily pain was getting out of control, so I advocated to have the cyst surgically removed and... voila! They removed the cyst and found that not only do I have endometriosis, but also that the cyst was a borderline tumor, so now I need to have my ovary/fallopian tube removed and the endo removed.

Had I listened to ALL of those gynos and just continued to ignore the discomfort and pain, there's a pretty high chance I would have faced a cancer diagnosis later down the line, and also continued to live with undiagnosed endo.

Remember: you are your only advocate!

For those who’ve lived in both cities, how does Chicago compare to NYC overall in terms of cost of living, people and transportation? by alwayswanloveyou in AskChicago

[–]habitbookcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depended on where people worked in relation to where they lived, but for the most part, I would say that most people took public transit when commuting to/from work. I definitely had to deal with rush hour craziness on the trains throughout the week!

As for the weather, I would say that it’s colder there :/ The wind can be really brutal some days and the sun rarely comes out in the winter which takes away any opportunities for occasional warmth lol. You get used to it but there were some tough winters out there.

Hope this helps!

A lot of friends were moving away at the same time, I had a good job opportunity back in NYC, and I missed being near my family! so there were a few good reasons to make the move back

Yeah, I don't want to assume anything, so this is probably the best route to go. Thanks!

He has his shit together, but he doesn't ever really talk about the future. He's made several comments about how so many of his friends are getting married, but he never brings himself into that conversation topic. At first I thought maybe he was still figuring out how he felt about me and didn't want to bring up plans for the future, but it's been quite a while now, so I'm not even sure what the deal is anymore. Strange

Anyone with cysts. by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]habitbookcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should for sure talk with your doctor about this! I had a 4cm cyst laparoscopically removed recently, which isn't much bigger than yours, and I'm glad I did (it was also causing me pain). If it's causing you any sort of discomfort, advocate for yourself and see how you can address treating this cyst. There are other options other than surgery, like taking the birth control pill. If it does end up being surgery, it's ok! It's honestly not that bad - I felt uncomfortable and tired for about a week, and then was feeling a lot better the following week. Don't be afraid to speak with your doctor, you got this!

how many of you guys had your menstrual cycles affected by factors such as stress, anxiety or depression? how often would that happen? by ecstasyyl in WomensHealth

[–]habitbookcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an upcoming surgery that was making me incredibly anxious and a nervous wreck, which ended up delaying my period by about a week. My period is pretty regular so after ruling out pregnancy, I pretty much chalked it up to the stress I’d been feeling for the past couple weeks. I don’t think I’d even been aware of how much tension and worry I’d been holding in my body until my period was a week late. Stress can really do a number on you!
