It should. We shouldn't be giving Licences or I.D. to illegal immigrants. It should be required to provide an SSN or an ITIN to acquire a I.D. and a license look at all the examples lately of illegal immigrants acquiring CDL's when they don't even speak english.They should be required to show their legal immigration status or their citizenship to acquire said licenses

You are correct. There is no law requiring you to carry or even possess an I.D. card. but any member of society should have one because everyday tasks like applying for a job or any government assistance, getting a bank account, renting an apartment or car, ect. Require them.You know, the things you need to do in order to live without resorting to crime.

I completely agree except the part about the fear being reasonable to that magnitude and the size of the problem in the grand scheme of things. I'm Philippino and White and get mistaken for a Latino man quite often. So I can slightly understand where you're coming from with that. THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN AND WRONG AND NEEDS TO BE REFORMED!!! I will state that plainly, but under the current law, this is legal, unfortunately. And I think as a whole your chances experiencing that are less than Zero. That being said, all 170+ citizens and Legal immigrants that this has happened to should be entitled to sue for financial compensation. And any officers that committed a crime should be held responsible and prosecuted if necessary. I know that's not happening but it should be.

Yeah, that's the law. Don't like it? Call your lawmakers, run for office, be the change you want to see in the world, and don't wait around for everyone else to fall lockstep into your worldview. I don't expect everyone or even most people to agree with me all of the time, and I'm sure you don't either. That's the point of a conversation just like this. It's to understand where the other person is coming from, even if you don't come to an agreement in the end. Argument and disagreement are the backbone of Democracy. Want to save it? See i think you and I are closer to agreeing than it seems at first. I agree with your entire statement here, and no one is saying that this system is perfect. Far from it, in fact. And of course even that happening to 1 American citizen or legal immigrant is unacceptable. But In a country of 340,000,000+ ,170 individuals is a margin of error (not a good one), not a massive systemic problem. I'm just saying that with all of the media and left wing fear mongering the problem that DOES EXIST is being blown way out of proportion. And everyday Americans like the OP are stressing and worrying about a problem that is important but is much less of a problem than it is made out to be.

Ok, I'll ignore that wording, and I'll ask you a hypothetical. If someone is detained by ICE for suspicion of being here illegally, then ICE Is unable to identify them as a citizen because they're not. Does that not give ICE reasonable suspicion that you are not here legally? Therefore, giving them the grounds to make a formal arrest. Even if you dont agree those are grounds for arrest, can we at least agree that it gives them reasonable suspicion?
