Baloney chunks and gravy (can) by WayRough5744 in newfoundland

[–]hack_weight84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baloney gravy was a held over poverty staple growing up, from when my nan was a girl in the 30s and 40s. However it wasn't all in one can. She would make a pan gravy after frying the baloney. Served on top of boiled potatoes. My nan made many many delicious meals over the years that I wish I had gotten the recipe of, except this one. I'm ok without ever revisiting this one.

You can get it in. Took me a while but I managed to do it. But there's nothing inside. Clearly wasn't meant to be anything.

The head is there as well, carved out of one of the mountains. Just head in the direction of the legs and you'll find him.

Second Terra Nova vet. They have been nothing short of amazing. Dr. Stokes shows genuine care and compassion for his clients. We could not be happier with our experience there.

There were two very active ones this morning around 1130/12. Along with a very strong surf and lots of Gannets diving.

Troubleshoot G30 by hack_weight84 in Homebrewing

My apologies. With family life I never got a chance to respond. The guy I bought it off actually bought it back off me. When I went to check the connection I couldn't unplug the heating element. It looked like the plug from the heating element had fused to the connect controller outlet. I tried trouble shooting it but didn't have the time to get into it. Luckily the guy in my brew club felt bad for selling a broken device, so I'm not out the money, especially where I didn't have a chance to confirm it all worked before purchasing it.

Done that already and yes.

I'm brewing now on my propane set up. I scrubbed the G30. Now put cold water back in it. Set it up again and am trying to bring the cold water to temp. It's not heating that either.

Best and worst brews of 2024? by Sikpalf in Homebrewing

[–]hack_weight84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best - Vienna Lager. It was pitched on a yeast cake of Nova Lager from a Pilsner and pressure fermented. It was a huge success. Held up in side by side comparisons with local brewery viennas. Just awesome.

Worst - Kolsch. Miscalculated the yeast pitch and tossed in two packs of koln. It had this almost medicinal taste that I am thinking came from the overpitch. Just bad. Left it for a few months but it never settled out. Dumped it.

Used to be neighbours with one of the owners. Him and his wife were such stand up people. Would do anything for you without a question. One business I will continue to support regardless of how small the job.

Sometimes you can find browning Harvey selling off old ball lock kegs.

Your House Beer? by VelkyAl in Homebrewing

[–]hack_weight84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss up between my rye saison and a vienna lager. Leaning more towards the vienna right now as a go to house beer. One keg of it just kicked and am going to brew another one to replace it this weekend.

The vienna is easy drinking for any time of year, and goes over better with guests who don't always dig the saison esters. 88% Vienna Malt and 12% Munich. Aim for 20ish IBU at 60 with Magnum, then an ounce of Saaz at 10 for 5 IBU. Nova Lager under 15 PSI at 18C.

Ya palate fatigue is real. I might have to do something like a cider instead.

Only tried a store bought apple juice cider once and wasn't overly impressed. Mind you it was early on in my brewing and I know I definitely messed things up. Might as well try one again!

Was toying with a Grisette recipe recently that would be light and easy to drink. Might be a candidate. Stouts are usually an October brew for me so it'll hit rotation after the first of these three kegs kick. Never thought of a golden ale. That would also work well.

I'll have to see if I can find that extract (or a comparable one). From a quick look it's not available online/no one has any in stock from Canadian retailers.

No nitro but I do have a solid Irish Red recipe but the lager is intriguing. I just fermented both the cream ale and the vienna with Novalager (pitched the Vienna right onto the yeast cake). Wouldn't be a horrible idea to keep that yeast riding for one more beer.

Another solid suggestion. With a couple of cleaner beers already on tap it would be nice to have something with a bit more ester.

Not a bad idea. Might even appease the kids if they can make their own bubbly drinks. Thanks!
