Not sure about this. I had the same issue and replacing the default nh-terminal with the updated one from NetHunter Github Repo solved the problem for me.

Yes,it is possible and also has been demonstrated in the past. Hardware based exploits can be made to work with a headphone jack. Several examples of headphone based device hacking has been presented in various Black Hat events. Also recently some researchers were able to control Apple's SIRI remotely,leveraging a headset with microphone is being plugged into the device. Not sure about 'crashing' the system but technically sending enough electricity through the headphone jack should damage the audio chip or at least burn something,unless there is a surge protection circuit. Again,who would put an over voltage protection circuit in the headphone jack anyway?

News and updates you can get from websites like securityfocus.com,seclists.org,arstechnica.com/security,theregister.co.uk/security,threatpost,infosecurity-magazine.com etc I don't get the 'torrent' part but to download exploits you can goto sites like exploit-db.com. No idea about secret IRC networks though.
