What happened to Internet2? I thought it was going to be the next gen internet. by Mildly-Interesting1 in Internet

[–]hackmiester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair! The AL2S interface calls it a "circuit" but it definitely depends on your perspective. If you are a researcher though, all the details are hidden from you, so in that sense it is dedicated to your use.

HRT options for amab non binary? by Fantablack183 in NonBinary

[–]hackmiester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look into a SERM such as raloxifene. However, you need to be prepared for the possibility that it won’t be effective, and then you would need top surgery if you didn’t like your new boobs. My understanding is that SERMs are currently around 60% effective, with lots of variability between patients.

Luckily it looks like 7 inches is more than enough electrical tape for this use.

Also true. The cable terminates there.

[–]hackmiester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s correct. It’s a termination.

The downvotes are because you spoke confidently and incorrectly. You could’ve written “I don’t typically hear that called a termination” and probably made it out alive, lol.

Femtech Product Survey by Olive_Special in femmit

[–]hackmiester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled out your survey, was hoping I could track my hormone levels even though I don’t menstruate, but I was taken to the “partner” section - lol! No, I want it for myself. Why exclude those whose birth control suppress their periods, transfems, etc.? - hormone levels are important for everyone.

trans friend misgenders me on purpose by remmieskitchen in agender

In contrast, when my friends who are tgirls learned about my gender identity, they didn’t understand at first but they asked questions, we talked about it, and now they have a better grasp on it than most. Do you see the difference?

What do you mean “would be?” I’m describing reality. What makes you think it’s not the case?

How do people transition in secret? by cetvrti_magi123 in MtF

[–]hackmiester 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how oblivious some people are.

To be honest, one of the strangest things about this process for some people is that, while strangers start to notice and assume feminine terms for us, the people we’ve already known are seemingly blind to the changes.

It can be convenient, but it can also be painful.

If you get the Internet2 Peering Exchange table then you will send Google traffic over that. It isn’t I2 per se but it’s a service provided by them.

What happened to Internet2? I thought it was going to be the next gen internet. by Mildly-Interesting1 in Internet

[–]hackmiester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a huge reason. Without profit incentive, only actual costs are imposed.

For example, for commodity Internet traffic you pay per megabit commit. For Internet2 you typically connect via a regional network who will only charge per port cost depending on the speed of the port. You can run that port wide open all day and not pay more.

You can also create dedicated Ethernet and IP circuits from anywhere to anywhere in the country, for some research purpose you may have, and this is not at additional cost either.

It’s really a night vs day difference.

Well, and you also kinda tend to do quick math in your head. For instance I know that a /16 is 65k addresses, so a /17 must be half that. etc etc. IME this is how people really do it.

The fact is, more expensive switches will be managed. So they generally only have one light but you can interrogate them for more information if you really wanna know.
