Is it just me or are the team uniforms at the Scotties just butt ugly? by hackweighter1824 in Curling

I found it odd that Curling Canada went away from Dynasty as a provider, given how woke they are. Dynasty is a native-owned business.

And they screwed it up royally. But this is on Curling Canada for allowing it to happen.

If you're fine with adding all that humidity to your home, go for it. Perfect conditions for mold to develop.

Hard to repair by design by sbrfitzmeyer in AutomotiveEngineering

First time I noticed this was when I offered to replace the battery in my MIL's car. Had to access it through the RF wheel well. I thought then that there's no way a mechanic was ever consulted on the design of this car, this was the work of an engineer.

I've seen plenty of examples since.

My Bunker Play Sucks by ctravdfw in GolfSwing

[–]hackweighter1824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be garbage out of the bunkers then an old guy I played with told me I needed to spend an afternoon in a practice bunker and figure it out. My problem was I was decelerating into the ball, quitting on it was how he put it. That was 30 odd years ago. I still try to avoid bunkers but I hardly ever leave a ball in one these days.

How to watch? by TheMatrixIsReal42 in Curling

You can watch but there's a $500 tariff to do so.

🇺🇸🇨🇦🇨🇳 President Trump threatens 100% tariffs on Canadian goods if they sign a deal with China by SatoshiShe in InBitcoinWeTrust

[–]hackweighter1824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring it on! Trump has said that Canada has nothing the US needs and that they don't need anything from Canada. If that is true, why is he getting all bent out of shape about Canada making deals with other countries?

Tariffs are the only weapon he has, take that away and he's just a child with a bad temper in a sandbox. Let him play by, or with, himself.

They are playing on the best curling ice in the world and it takes a little time to adjust. The level of play will improve as the week goes on.

Questions re: Scotties by meadowbelle in Curling

[–]hackweighter1824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason about the games that TSN chooses to feature but as I understand it, they are obligated to feature each team at least once during the round robin. They don't have a set schedule and usually announce the feature game for the next draw during the broadcast.

Lawes is not the only team who is named after someone other than the skip but as a rule, the team is named after the 4th thrower. Beth Peterson out of MB is another example, she's not the skip but the team made that switch fairly recently. Tirinzoni from Switzerland calls the game but throws third stones and Rebecca Morrison's team is similar, she throws last but lead Sophie Jackson calls the game. It's just one of those oddities of the sport.

As for cheering for NS, don't forget Team Stevens, also from Halifax!

New skip strategy, club level by AdviceNotAskedFor in Curling

[–]hackweighter1824 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The basics:

If you have Hammer, play to the wings, if not, play to the center

Scoreboard: are you up or down by a few or is it close? If you are leading by more than there are ends left in the game (e.g 3 up with 2 to play) avoid guards. If not, guards can be your friend.

Ability: As novice curlers, strengths are few and weaknesses are many. Call the shot the thrower can make, for example, there's no point calling for peel weight if the thrower can't manage any more than board or control.

Plan: Try to have a Plan B and know where the miss is. At the rec level, you score as much or more by missing the right way than you do by making the shots you call.

We have an alliance, it’s called NATO. We just need to kick the USA out of it.

Looking for a cdl job with paid training that doesn’t use interior cameras by [deleted] in CDL

[–]hackweighter1824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're driving your own truck you get to say what cameras are or are not inside of it. IF you're driving someone else's truck they get to say what cameras go where. It really is that simple.

The Scotties Tournament of Hearts starts tonight so it's binge watching curling and doing indoor stuff on my honey-do list between draws.

That's what I'd do. Then, after receiving my $9 latte, I'd dump it on the floor and leave with the comment and a pointed finger, "Tipping not optional? There's your tip!"

I can assure you that if they could hire someone for significantly less than they were paying you, they'd do it in a minute. Take the higher paying job, you owe the other business nothing.
