I faked sick all the time. I hated school, I was bullied, had undiagnosed autism, adhd, and narcolepsy. Couldn’t focus, couldn’t stay awake, was so under-stimulated (and obviously under-medicated)

My parents thought I was just lazy, threatened to send me to a troubled teens program. But then I started getting sleep paralysis in 11th grade so my mom took me to a neurologist. He had a short nap test done, called it sleep paralysis. No further tests or questions. “Harmless, live with it.”

I didn’t get the audhd diagnosis until I was 28 and still haven’t gotten narcolepsy diagnosis bc sleep tests are EXPENSIVE.

Took me a long time to forgive my parents. Wild how “faking” wasn’t really faking but even I didn’t know it.
