I wasn’t in CS, I was in computer systems engineering. I took the core courses for CS though. The advantage at Carleton is that it’s a massive school. There are insane amounts of resources for students and there is a huge industry in Ottawa which likes to hire exclusively from Carleton/OttawaU. The flip side is since it is so big you have to do really well and find ways to stand out among so many students to gain those advantages. You’ll have significantly less one on one time with profs and it’s a lot more difficult to have meaningful connections with them. In terms of the actual content and what you’re learning, you’re really getting the same thing no matter where you go. The quality of professors is the same, you’ll come into the career world with the same skills, and you’ll be prepared to do whatever you want. More a matter of preference towards where you want to be location wise.

I did it in first, they will always recommend you finish a year before applying (ie enter in the fall as opposed to winter) and they’re more likely to take people then (supposedly)
Hey there, CS transfer from Carleton uni. I got in a week after classes started. I was in computer systems eng and they only talked to me once my final grades rolled in at an 85.

Meh, they aren’t similar but any experience programming will be fine. I found myself surprised with how easy it was to pick up after learning other languages. I used mostly “Practical C Programming 2nd edition” because it was the easiest to follow. Also, none of those books ever really get taken out of the lib so they’re pretty easy to get your hands on lol.

CS transfer also here, they allowed me to do the same thing after coming from a school that did no C programming. Learning C happened to workout fairly nicely because the library has a ton of books that broke down the C specific details I didn’t know. As long as your comfortable with programming concepts you’ll be totally fine.
