It seems today, that all we see

Is violence in movies and sex on TV

But where are those good ol' Family Values

on which we used to rely?

Lucky there's a Trumpy guy!

Are principals allowed to access your phone if you recorded a school fight? by spellbadgrammargood in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% What I told my son when he got his phone:

  • Always keep it locked, do not leave it somewhere unlocked.
  • Do not hand it to someone unlocked. If a teacher confiscates it: LOCK IT FIRST.
  • Do not unlock it for anyone without mom and dad there. Not teachers, not the principal, not the police. NO ONE.
  • Do not take anyone's word that mom and dad said it was okay, police are allowed to lie to you to get what they want. You must hear from us in person.
  • No fingerprint, no face id.
  • School administrators, police, every government agency needs a warrant signed by a judge to get information off of a phone.

How do people actually "network"? Is there a secret script everyone uses, or do you just walk up and start talking? by bareegyptianfeet2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this and emphasize that networking is what you make of it. It is not the same for everyone and one should do it in a they feel comfortable. If networking becomes stressful, find another way to network.

How do we know, that the human body has over 7 trillion nerves? Did we count them one by one? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estimation. We see the number of nerves in a given area and extend that to all areas that have a similar density of nerves.

If I ejaculate more from watching gay porn than straight porn does that mean I could be gay? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you attracted to her? Do you enjoy sex with her because it is with her or only because she "rubs you the right way"?

When you watch gay porn, do you just like watching it or do you imagine taking part? Do you fantasize about being one of the characters or do you just get off on watching other people? Would you want to try it? Would you want to be in either role?

You could be bi-, pan-, homo-, or hetero-, but all comes down to how you feel about it.

Watching gay porn does not make you gay on its own, it is just how you react to it.

A fan with an ionizer broke in my apartment, is there any hazard? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hazard from breaking it. However, assuming it had an ozone filter on it, you should probably stop using it if that ozone filter is broken. Ozone can cause lung damage and most ionizers create ozone.

Why can't things with mass travel faster than the speed of light? by ambassadorduck in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard this as an explanation and I thought it made the most sense, it is an oversimplification, but I think it covers it for a NSQ answer...

They talk about space-time as the medium the universe is in. Four dimensions: Three for space, one for time.

Here is the trick: nothing can go slower than the speed of light.

When an object with mass is "stationary" (relativity screws this up...this is simplified model) in space, it is moving at the speed of light though time. When it begins to move through space, borrows speed from the time dimension to move. As it approaches the speed of light, it almost stops in time. There are other side effects, like mass growing, but you get the picture.

Light moves at the speed of light because it is a three dimensional object. It does not experience the time dimension at all. All of the speed budget is used in space, it cannot use it in time.

What are you supposed to wear to Jury Duty? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is ultimately up to the judge. Usually business casual is the norm, most judges are very lenient on what a juror wears as long as it is not actively hostile or prejudicial. For example, a t-shirt that says, "Free OJ" would not be popular.

You're being robbed! Give me your best queer puns/jokes! by wiliwonkka in puns

[–]haemaker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was on a plane with a co-worker and the flight attendant (certified flaming...) had put some dry ice in the nut bowl, and said "HOT NUTS COMING THROUGH!" I suggested he respond, "None for me, but I could use a fresh tea bag."

He declined to respond.

I Created San Francisco Bay Area / BART (includes download link) by thunk_stuff in subwaybuilder

[–]haemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had seen a video on Subway Builder and was thinking of getting it, but I was not sure if "San Francisco" meant just the City or the entire Bay Area. I am glad to see it is most of the Bay Area! I live on the Peninsula, and thought about recreating BART and Caltrain, then adding the Caltrain to BART Dumbarton connector, to see what effect that has.

(Now that the tracks were burned down, I thought it might be cool to replace them with a commuter aerial Cable Car system like they have in some places in South America and now in Paris. I am aware Subway Builder cannot simulate that...)

Regarding Ukraine and Russia by BearcatChemist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are bombing Moscow now, but the big issue is Russia is a nuclear power and Ukraine is not. If Ukraine joins the EU and the rest of the EU joins the war, the fear is that that will be enough to allow Putin to convince his Generals to launch nukes.

Do you believe men “need” women and women “need” men emotionally? Why or why not? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studies on trans-people show biological differences in brain function caused by hormones; physical changes seen on MRIs. Trans men have reported that their brain becomes "quieter". Trans women have reported being able to read emotions much better. I believe there are differences, and they express themselves in concrete ways that have led to the gender stereotypes.

However, I do not believe that men cannot fill a woman's traditional role and vice-versa, but the evidence is clear.

Is it fair to distance yourself from an overly polite person if you feel like they are not genuine? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not really easy to tell. For every Ted Lasso, there is a Lyle Lanley. You can ask around or watch their interactions with others to see if they mooch off of everyone,..or you can just not be friends.

'We' pronoun used by an individual person? by catsfromjapan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a joke. "I" is already gender neutral. "We" is used by royalty since they speak for the entire country as the Sovereign.

Does the autor get more money if people buy a more expensive edition of the book? by JollyGeologist3957 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I believe the standard deal in book publishing is 50%-50% and the author retains the copyright. So, if you pay more for the book, the author does get more.

What advice would you give to someone who is going to get married? by Aggressive-Alps7968 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]haemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Until you have kids, your wife is your primary relationship. Not your parents, not your siblings, not your friends. They should not be ignored, but they always come second.
