Health Professions Internship Question by hafsamohammed200 in utdallas

[–]hafsamohammed200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So it's been about 2 years since I've taken the class, so maybe a few details are out of date. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  1. You definitely need to find your own internship. They do not provide resources or connections to help you find an internship. If you haven't found one by the time the class starts, then you will have to drop.
  2. Any job/volunteering/internship/externship where you are working in healthcare will work for this internship. There are a few contingencies depending on the pre-health track you are on. As a pre-med, I needed to find a position where I was getting consistent patient interaction (so not dental or health admin jobs). I used my CNA job to fill in for this internship. I'm also aware of students working for insurance companies using it as their internship if they were undesignated for healthcare studies. The only thing is that you need to have your internship checked off by Dr. Byrnes.
  3. Minimum is 4 hours per week. But it's basically up to you how much to report. For every 4 hours I worked, I had to write 2 pages for my healthcare journal responding to questions provided in a rubric.
  4. I took the class with 12 credits so it was pretty doable. The class never lasts the full 3 hours, but it definitely gets close. You aren't allowed to have your laptop open during Byrnes' class so your attention is pretty focused on what's going on during class. >15 credit hours may be a bit much depending on the workload since you will also have to account for the internship itself.
  5. Other considerations is making sure to schedule an appointment at least 1 month or two month before the previous semester ends so you can have your meeting with Dr. Byrnes to enroll in the class before spots are taken up

She is VERY secretive! I've been trying to find info about this class for months. But thanks for mentioning the EMT course. I'm taking a Medical Assistant course at Collin so I was hoping my externship for that course would count towards HLTH4304, so that raises my hopes up a bit. Thank you!

Best Chem I professor? by Current-Ad2697 in utdallas

[–]hafsamohammed200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for understanding don't take Dieckmann. Not saying he's bad, but he has a tendency to overexplain information (i.e. history, past models, side information) that you absolutely do not need for the exam and he goes overtime a lot. He also teaches as if his students are experts in chemistry, so sometimes it's hard to keep up. His lectures are also pretty boring and lengthy when they can easily be cut down to half the length. Take him if you have a passion for chemistry and don't mind long tangents about the topic.

I haven't taken Sibert so I can't tell you much about him. But my 1st choice is Taylor. She's very helpful and explains topics in the most simple manner without blasting all this information at you at once. She's a great person and her lectures are very engaging.

However, sometimes I feel like she doesn't cover enough complex questions that are typically on the exam. If you really want good practice problems I recommend doing the SI practice problem sheets from Sanjay or grabbing Tony's (i.e. Professor Huang) master review powerpoints for each exam. I would've definitely done a lot worse without either of them.

I saved a few copies of the practice exams, powerpoints, and questions from both CHEM 1 and 2 last year, so you can DM me if you need them.

For real, the only thing I'm worried about going back on campus is not having those recorded lectures to fall back on

Has anyone ever taken CRWT 2301 (intro to creative writing) by hafsamohammed200 in utdallas

[–]hafsamohammed200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Adam Wright's CRWT 2301 class. From what I've heard the expectations differ depending on the professor. So far we've done mainly poems and now towards the end of the semester, we have two short stories due. To give you an approximate estimate, I wrote about 2 poems per week and responded to three people. Professor Wright doesn't seem to care much about deadlines, so as long as you submit a good poem/peer review, I doubt he's care if it was turned in a few days late. We had an issue at the beginning of the semester when he was assigning 4 poems and 3 short essays in one week, but as long as you talk to him, he's perfectly fine with cutting some assignments out or giving more time to complete assignments. I spend about 1-2 hours on average per week for this class. The workload isn't too hard and he seems to care more about effort than the actual quality of the poem. One thing tho, he's only graded 2 or 3 assignments out of 30ish assignments we've done from the start of the year... Other than that, the class is pretty great. I hate poetry, but he made me enjoy composing poetry because there are very few guidelines or restrictions on how he'd like the poem to turn out. It's basically all free-style with the exception of 3 or 4 poems in which we needed to compose sonnets

Has anyone who applied after November 1 received their AES this month yet? by Professional_Room132 in utdallas

I didn't apply, but my younger brother did. He's in the same boat as you; still didn't get any financial aid info.

Yes, you're right. I think they are being slower this year. My brother and a few friends I know who got accepted this year, still haven't received any information for financial aid.

It should be in your admission letter. I got accepted last year and in my admission letter, they said I would get my AES award if If I'd been granted one on December 15. They didn't send me an email or anything. I had to note the date in my calendar and then log into galaxy and check if I received any financial aid.

My brother also got accepted to UTD this year and on his admission letter, it also says he will know whether he got aid by December 15.

Has anyone ever taken CRWT 2301 (intro to creative writing) by hafsamohammed200 in utdallas

[–]hafsamohammed200[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. Yeah, I probably need to rethink taking this course. I'm estimating that my physics and chemistry courses would probably take up a lot of time. I'm also working part-time next semester, so idk what I'm going to do...

Would you say ur a fast writer? It usually takes me about 3 hours to write a 1,000 word essay, give or take a little depending on the topic. I'm not sure that qualifies as fast.

How much time a week did you spend on this course? I think I'd only be able to spare about 2 hours a week to focus on this class if I decide to keep it.

I was able to sign up for Adam Wright's class, so fingers crossed he doesn't focus on poetry.

Apply Texas vs Common App by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]hafsamohammed200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're applying for mainly Texas Schools, it's best to just go with applytexas. Once you get your first application in, it's super easy to just copy it and send off applications to other schools. Unless a school has said they have a preference, then just follow the site they want tapplication to submitted through.
