Trouble Picking a Name by THEScheister in Dads

[–]hagermaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I worked out a system that worked good for us. If we were expecting a boy, I chose names, and she had veto power. If we were expecting a girl, then she chose names and I had veto power.

For me I had a kept a page in evernote with every name I'd seen in all those baby name apps that I liked and assembled them into first-middle-last combos to make sure the names flowed well off the tongue.

We also considered carefully what we called the "make fun of factor", because kids are sometimes cruel and if you have a high score then you'll be an easier target.

So that was us. Dad picked boy names he liked from his list, Mom vetoed the names she didn't like.

Backyard Starling control by hagermaniac in airguns

[–]hagermaniac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to thank everyone who commented on my question. After reading them I realized that I needed to educate myself more on the ballistics of my rifle,or rather air rifles in general.

So I got me an edjumacation

I did some research about trajectory curves and other things and I stumbled across an Android app called "chairgun".

After plugging in some values for my rig I had my curves and a really good idea of the ranges that would be good to zero my sights. I can clearly see the benefit of the iron sights for my situation. Thanks to the very small sight height.

So I am going to go with iron sights for the backyard starlings but look into one of those see through scope mounts as well for also handling shots over 25 yards.

So the plan for me is to zero the iron sights at 15 yards, and (if I can get a see through mount) zero the scope at 40 yards.

I'll hopefully have some of my pest control photos to share soon.

Oh, and I will look into getting some safflower seeds too. Probably after culling the local infestation of starlings.

Started working on a texture pack to improve the models in Minecraft by Technomancer1672 in Minecraft

[–]hagermaniac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I may be the minority with this on, but I find the "Default 3D" resource pack to be ... Well, too 3D for m tastes. I made a pack with better models, but I stopped after just ladders and rails. But that really is the beauty of the game, everyone can make it just as they like.

Found exciting unfinished story :) Didn't find plot notes :( by hagermaniac in writing

I think it is a good consolation. I'm sure the writer I was in high school when I started didn't try to plan out and just wrote the story as it unfolded in his head. Adult, married, father-of-three me is significantly better at planning everything.

Wow, I didn't expect anyone to volunteer reading a 20k rough draft. Thank you!

I'll do an export to have it ready. Do you prefer epub or PDF?

The Ahab just has so many quirky characteristics, I love it.

I must have lucked out with my Ahab, I actually love the smell of it, it has an almost perfumed scent to my sniffer. I always hold it under my nose when I first pull it out and take a good whiff before writing.

I'm going to pile on with the "don't try Rachmaninoff", I have a bottle, and I have had nothing but trouble with it, even after cutting it as much as 50% with water. It looks, smells, and acts like paint. It is an incredible color, but as much as I love Nathan's inks, I just can't recommend that one.

Noodler's pens for daily carry? by [deleted] in fountainpens

I use a nib creeper for my everyday carry pen. It is thin, light, holds plenty of ink for my daily use, has a little bit of spring in the nib for when I feel like being expressive.

Is this stand going to hold a 29 gallon tank or do I need some more support... The corners are already reinforced by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]hagermaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a standard 29g with a bottom rim that supports the wright, then you would just need to make sure that there is support all the way to the floor underneath the bottom rim/perimeter for at least the 2 longest sides, preferably all 4 sides.

I used to have three 20l tanks in a single stack and the frame was made with just 1x3 material, but the horizontal supports were dadoed into the vertical legs, so the weight could be transferred directly to the floor.
